18.8. Employees will not normally be required to work for more than 7.50 hours on any one day<br />

and should not work more than five (5) consecutive hours without taking a break <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

30 minutes.<br />

18.9. Managers have a responsibility to minimise the extent to which employees are required to<br />

work beyond normal working patterns, and to ensure that employees have reasonable<br />

access to departmental resources such as remote access to assist them in achieving<br />

appropriate work life balance.<br />

18.10. Where employees are required to work outside the bandwidth and public transport or<br />

alternative arrangements are not available or practicable, managers should take account <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>Department</strong>’s duty <strong>of</strong> care regarding employees’ safety and, if appropriate, provide<br />

secure, accessible car parking or cabcharge vouchers to meet the employee’s costs <strong>of</strong><br />

transport.<br />

19. Christmas close down<br />

19.1. DCCEE will close its normal operations from close <strong>of</strong> business on the last working day before<br />

Christmas, with business resuming on the first working day after New Year’s Day.<br />

19.2. Employees will be provided with time <strong>of</strong>f for the working days between Christmas and New<br />

Year’s Day and will be paid in accordance with their ordinary hours <strong>of</strong> work. Where an<br />

employee is absent on leave, payment for the Christmas closedown provision will be in<br />

accordance with the entitlement for that form <strong>of</strong> leave, (e.g. if on long service leave half pay,<br />

both sides <strong>of</strong> the close down payment for the close down is on half pay; if on leave less than<br />

full pay on only one side <strong>of</strong> the close down then pay will be at the full time rate).<br />

19.3. There will be no deduction from Annual or Personal/carer’s leave credits for the closedown<br />

days.<br />

19.4. Part time employees normally not working on the days <strong>of</strong> the week on which annual<br />

closedown occur will not be entitled to alternative time <strong>of</strong>f duty.<br />

19.5. An employee who is required to work during Christmas closedown will receive time <strong>of</strong>f in<br />

lieu.<br />

20. Public holidays<br />

20.1. Employees will be entitled to the following public holidays:<br />

o New Year's Day (1 January);<br />

o Australia Day (26 January);<br />

o Good Friday;<br />

o Easter Monday;<br />

o Anzac Day (25 April);<br />

o The Queen's birthday holiday (on the day on which it is celebrated in a State or<br />

Territory or a region <strong>of</strong> a State or Territory);<br />
