Beautiful beaches, ancient culture and magical cures... these are just a few of the many
reasons to trade the Med for the Black Sea this summer!
Saturn, Venus and Jupiter are
closer than you think! For anyone
who feels the Mediterranean has
become a bit of a “been there, done
that” experience, the resorts on
Romania’s Black Sea coast – some of which
bear stellar names – may just be the perfect new
summer playgrounds.
The Romanian coast is renowned for its fi ne,
soft sand and safe, gently sloping beaches. And
because there are no currents or tides, they
are safe for families with children. Mamaia, the
oldest and largest, is an ideal choice, thanks to
its growing number of child-friendly attractions
– including a Dolphinarium and Planetarium,
both within easy reach of the beach – not to
mention a great assortment of fun water sports
and extensive choice of hotels, restaurants,
and entertainment. In fact, all of the Black Sea
beaches, stretching from Mangalia to Mamaia,
are dotted with fi ne resorts and hotels and
countless sports and entertainment facilities.
The young crowd tend to opt for Costinesti,
which is packed all summer long, and where
open-air discos ensure they are able to fully
enjoy themselves, day and night.
The Black Sea coast has
long been known for
cures for arthritic,
rheumatic, internal and
nervous disorders
Romania’s Black Sea coast is not, however,
just about beaches. Remnants of ancient Greek
culture going back as far as the seventh century
BC (when seafarers established trading colonies
along the coast) are still being discovered.
Constanta traditional villages and vineyards,
such as Murfatlar, are the perfect places to
indulge in some wine-tasting; and many are
surprised by the excellent quality of Romanian
wines! Many museums and monuments along
the coastal area illustrate a rich history dating
back to Greek, Roman and Byzantine times.
The Black Sea coast has long been known
for its “magical” cures for arthritic, rheumatic,
internal and nervous disorders. Eforie Nord
and Mangalia Spas specialise in mud baths (the
mud is taken from the area’s salty lake waters)
as well as in world-famous “Gerovital” and
“Aslavital” original rejuvenation treatments.
Visitors to Romania’s Black Sea Coast can
also join organised trips from the seaside to a
number of locations in the country, including
the Danube Delta, the painted monasteries
of Bucovina and to the nation’s capital city,
Bucharest, as well as to other tourist areas.
