Nursery growers know that a small investment today will lead to a better
tomorrow. Like our many of our customers, Spring Meadow Nursery has a long
tradition of giving back to the industry that makes our landscapes green.
HRI
One of the ways we do this is by working with our customers to fund the
Horticulture Research Institute (HRI). Since 1962, HRI has worked to increase
the quality and value of plants, improve the productivity and profitability of
the nursery and landscape industry, and protect and enhance the environment.
Every time you make a purchase from Spring Meadow Nursery, we add ¼ of
1% of your total purchase amount to your invoice as a contribution to HRI.
Spring Meadow then triples your donation, which is given to HRI to support
the Spring Meadow Nursery New Plants Fund and the HRI Endowment Fund.
Most recently these funds supported research into biodegradable nursery
containers and the potential of ornamental plants for carbon sequestration.
“The information gained from this project will directly benefit producers,
retail outlets, landscape designers and landscape contractors. It will ultimately
contribute to education produces that promote the contributions of plants to
environmental stewardship and sustainability.”
Interns
We like to have a more hands-on approach to educating young horticulturists,
too. Every year Spring Meadow hires several interns and gives them valuable
work experience in a production nursery. We’ve enjoyed working with young
people from across the U.S. and Canada, and even as far away as Poland and
France. If you know of a young person who would like to apply for one of
next year’s positions, please have them contact Jeremy Deppe,
(jeremy@springmeadownursery.com).
IPPS
Spring Meadow Nursery is a proud member of IPPS, The International Plant
Propagators Society, and has sponsored Southern and Eastern regional
meetings. IPPS is a wonderful resource for anyone involved in the horticulture
industry, and Spring Meadow encourages our customers to be a part of this
“Seek and Share” organization. Find out more at www.ipps.org
Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Together we have helped raise nearly $500,000 for breast cancer research!
For every Invincibelle ® Spirit hydrangea sold, $1 is donated to the Breast
Cancer Research Foundation. Spring Meadow Nursery has also made separate
contributions to this worthy organization, which has a 4-star rating from
Charity Navigator. Over 90% of all donation dollars go directly to research
grants and awareness programs. BCRF funds research around the world, with
grants now supporting 172 scientists in 12 countries. BCRF is dedicated to
preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in our lifetime by funding clinical
and translational research worldwide. Find out more at www.bcrfcure.org
