See, in the old days you done something like you try to
do now - they tried to keep those jobs in each district,
to keep everybody happy. Of course Frank had down there where
you get your marriage licenses and business permits ani3 all.
And I danCt know when Frank got in down there; I think
Frank got in there in the late twenties or early thirties
Clerk of the Court. And he wasn't a acllege boy.
See, wasn't: too many lawyers down there - w ell, there
wasn't many colleges. But you didn't need a college . . .
Today, the average guy that finished the eighth grade the
old days today. I mean, I hate to say
that; I don't mean to be nasty, but facts are facts and you
deal with it, you seen them - they can't add, they can't
read, they can't write. And I feel sorry for them - I
think it's terrible when a person can't count.
Hawes: Well, what kind of things did Robey do in ampd den?
