tax, which you wholly enjoy, as also other sundry collecti<strong>on</strong>s, into five shares,viz:—<br />

Two shares to Soda Ladajee.<br />

Two shares to Sodas Wagjee <strong>and</strong> Juggutsing.<br />

One share to Soda Naranjee.<br />

The above proceeds may be divided between yourselves as you wish, <strong>and</strong> you should<br />

serve Government according to your abilities, but you should not assess the Veerawow<br />

l<strong>and</strong>s c<strong>on</strong>trary to Government orders; besides this, Government allow you <strong>and</strong> your<br />

people to take salt from Mokye for your own <strong>and</strong> their use, but it must not be sold to<br />

others.<br />

APPEDIX O.<br />

Be it known to the possessor of bravery <strong>and</strong> intrepidity, Kurunjee, Rana of Nuggur<br />

Parkur,—<br />

1. That the country of Sind <strong>and</strong> the district of Nuggur Parkur, which is a dependency <strong>on</strong><br />

Sind, have fallen to the possessi<strong>on</strong> of the East India Company; but as you have<br />

represented, through Lieutenant Col<strong>on</strong>el Roberts, Political Agent in Kutch, the present<br />

positi<strong>on</strong> of your affairs, with a statement of your wants, <strong>and</strong> as your good intenti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>and</strong><br />

sincerity are well known to the Government, therefore Major General Sir Charles Napier,<br />

G. C. B., Governor of Sind, has been pleased, of his great kindness <strong>and</strong> c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong>, to<br />

present to you this Sunnud, by which you are exempted from the payment of all taxes <strong>and</strong><br />

duties <strong>on</strong> the villages of Ranpoor <strong>and</strong> Soorachun.<br />

2. This Sunnud will c<strong>on</strong>tinue valid for a period of seven years, that is from this date, the<br />

15th of October 1844, to the 14th of October 1851; at the expirati<strong>on</strong> of the above period,<br />

it will rest with the Government to make such alterati<strong>on</strong> in the Sunnud as it may be<br />

pleased to direct.<br />

3. With respect to the other divisi<strong>on</strong>s of the district of Nuggur Parkur, the British<br />

Government will collect all the revenues <strong>on</strong> them in such manner as shall be beneficial to<br />

its subjects, <strong>and</strong> advantageous to itself.<br />

4. To those of your brotherhood <strong>and</strong> of the inhabitants of Nuggur Parkur, who have been<br />

exempted from the payment of taxes <strong>and</strong> duties, deeds of exempti<strong>on</strong> or Sunnuds have<br />

been granted.<br />

5. All other pers<strong>on</strong>s not possessing such Sunnuds, will pay the taxes.<br />

6. As the kindness <strong>and</strong> c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> of the Government in your behalf are apparent, it is<br />

incumbent <strong>on</strong> you to use every endeavor <strong>and</strong> exerti<strong>on</strong> in its service.<br />
