3.2. Preliminary Estimation of Carbon Effects
In the baseline estimation an area of 6.500, suitable for CDM-AR activities was taken
into account. Since in figure 3.4 was shown that eligible area was only 13% or 5.239
the area of influence will be extended, also because it is not likely to expect an adoption
rate of 100%. Since the whole Chapare region had a similar development in the prefeasibility
study existing data will be extrapolated. Later on in the feasibility stage the
project area will be defined on a detailed level.
The biomass production, wood volume, profitability, and carbon sequestration potential
of a project is dependent upon a variety of factors including silvicultural activities,
management regimes, and markets, among other factors (Zomer et al, 2006)
Per hectare carbon accumulation are calculated with the ENCOFOR AR-DSS and are
shown, in figure 4.3a and 4.3b, for the different tree species under the best possible
growth circumstances in the Chapare area.
However growth rates between the different species differ a lot, Carbon increase
doesn’t since it are the species with a low carbon content which grow fast and species
with a lower density are growing slower. Only in dipteryx odorata a significant
difference in C-accumulation is shown, since it has long rotations C-accumulation
continues over a longer time.
