4.4. Leakage<br />

Additional emissions<br />

As a consequence of <strong>project</strong> activities <strong>the</strong>re will be some additional fossil fuel<br />

emissions. S<strong>in</strong>ce this will be m<strong>in</strong>imal, no calculations <strong>for</strong> this are made <strong>in</strong> this stage of<br />

<strong>project</strong> development.<br />

Displacement<br />

Project strategy will be to <strong>in</strong>troduce a more efficient <strong>for</strong>m of land use, agricultural<br />

systems will be <strong>in</strong>tensified as much as possible with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>project</strong> boundaries:<br />

• Agro<strong>for</strong>estry systems will be <strong>in</strong>troduced to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> level of<br />

agricultural production with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>project</strong> boundary. This does not necessarily<br />

mean <strong>the</strong> same crops will be produced, <strong>the</strong>re might be a shift <strong>for</strong>m annual crops<br />

to perennial crops, but production level from a f<strong>in</strong>ancial and subsistence po<strong>in</strong>t of<br />

few will be ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed or improved.<br />

• Silvopastoral systems will be <strong>in</strong>troduced toge<strong>the</strong>r with high productive grass<br />

species, by this carry<strong>in</strong>g capacity of <strong>the</strong> area will improve so <strong>the</strong> number of<br />

cattle estimated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> basel<strong>in</strong>e can be ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed.<br />

If as a result of <strong>the</strong> pre-<strong>feasibility</strong> <strong>study</strong> it appears that <strong>in</strong> spite agro<strong>for</strong>estry and<br />

silvopastoral systems production capacity <strong>for</strong> crops and cattle is reduced, leakage<br />

management areas will be <strong>in</strong>troduced. This are areas used already <strong>for</strong> agricultural but<br />
