1992 SUGGESTED FISHING PATTERN - AREA 8<br />

- No surplus predicted to the Atnarko. Small Kimsquit<br />

River surplus will be taken incidentally in other<br />

fisheries.<br />

- Large surplus to the Atnarko River predicted at<br />

approximately 5 million. Hydraulic overwinter sampling<br />

confirms good survival. Kimsquit, Kwatna and Koeye<br />

Pink surpluses will contribute an additional 2 million<br />

Pink.<br />

- Total Area 8 surplus of 430,000 Chum. Bella Coola<br />

River contribution is 300,000 including a hatchery<br />

contributiuon of 150000. There is a small surplus to<br />

Kimsquit and Lower Dean streams.<br />

- Very small surplus of Atnarko Chinook is predicted.<br />

Forecasted returns in the past have over estimated the<br />

actual return.<br />

Action<br />

Open to gillnets for 1 day in Subareas 8-10, 8-11<br />

8-12 (north of Bensins Island), 8-13 (north of<br />

Restoration Bay) and 8-15.<br />

Minimum mesh restriction of 203 mm. Further chinook<br />

openings will depend on stock strength indicators.<br />

Open to gillnets for 1 day in Subareas 8-3, 8-4,<br />

8-5, 8-10, 8-11, 8-12 (north of Bensins Island),<br />

and 8-15.<br />

Minimum mesh restriction of 149mm to conserve<br />

sockeye.<br />

Open to gillnets and seines for 2 days in Subareas<br />

8-2 (easterly of a line from the southernmost tip<br />

of Stirling Island to Barney Point), 8-3, 8-4 and<br />

8-5 (south of a line from Farewell Point to a<br />

prominent point 0.7 miles northerly of Bold point).<br />

Open to gillnets for 2 days in Subareas 8-10, 8-11,<br />

8-12 (north of Bensins Island), and 8-15. Minimum<br />

mesh restriction of 149mm.<br />

Open to gillnets and seines for 2 days in Subareas<br />

8-2 (easterly of a line from the southernmost tip<br />

of stirling Island to Barney Point), 8-3, 8-4 and<br />

8-5 (south of a line from Farewell Point to a<br />

prominent point 0.7 miles northerly of Bold Point).<br />
