problems with statistics of labour market. In the classification of 1995 there were some outdated
occupations, groups of occupation were not ver very y widespread, occupation that were very much
fragmented into specializations, and it lacked some occupations which appeared due to new
technologies.
Two updates made in 2002 and 2004 had a purpose to eliminate the limitations of the
former classification. . They were both based on ISCO-88 and ISCO-88 (COM), the groups
correspond to ISCED-97, 97, and introduced new occupations and remove the outdated ones.
Although there is an updated NOC available, most of the research (e.g. national survey)
were conducted before fore 2004 and therefore KZiS 2002 is mostly used. Fortunately there is a key to
transfer the data collection based on KZiS 2002 to KZiS 2004.
7.3 Conversion table to ISCO-88
A conversion table is available from the Polish NOC 2004 to ISCO-88 and convert from the
level of the unit group of the KZiS to the level of the unit group of ISCO ISCO-88. 88. The problem with
converting nurses from KZiS (ISCED level 3) to a higher education level category in ISCO ISCO-88
(major group 2, ISCED level 6) will remain the same when con converting verting this occupational group to
ISCO-08.
7.4 Overall conclusions of the Polish NOC
Polish occupational classification has two main characteristics: (1) it is very up up-to-date
since it has been updated 3 times in the last fifteen years, which led to fun fundamental damental changes in
relation to the version of 1983; (2) it is based on ISCO ISCO-88 88 and all the terms used in the
international classification are reflected in it. The main critic concerns the problems with
classification of self-employed, employed, and th the using the names of occupation, , especially in IT sector,
which are not understood by respondents.
8. The National Occupational Classification in Great
Britain
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is responsible for compiling the Standard
Occupational Classification n (SOC) which was first published in 1990 to replace both the
Classification of Occupations 1980 (CO80) and the Classification of Occupations and Dictionary of
Occupational Titles (CODOT). The most recent version of the SOC is from 2000 (SOC (SOC-2000).
8.1 Description cription of the British NOC
The Standard Occupational Classification is based on principles similar to those of ISCO ISCO-88,
skill level and skill content. The SOC consists of 9 major groups (See Appendix 8 for the structure
of SOC-2000 2000 and the correspondence to ISCO-88(COM). . The armed forces are incorporated in the
major groups ‘Managers and senior officials’ and ‘Associate professionals and technical
occupations’. A distinction is made in the major group ‘Managers and senior officials’ between
