DIVISION 4 CLUB NOTES
which has won the chance to play fi nals for the second year in
a row, and so represent Park Orchards in the EFL fi nals series.
Congratulations to our Coach Tony Weeks and the players
on making the fi nals, and for fi nishing the home and away
season so well on Saturday with a strong win at home over
Surrey Park. However, the job is far from fi nished and we
have not come this far just to make up the numbers, so lots
of work still to be done over the next four weeks. We want to
thank our Foundation Members, sponsors, general members
and supporters for all their encouragement and support this
season. Your attendance at our home games in particular has
been fantastic, and we appreciate you being part of our fi rst
season as a fully-fl edged senior club. We urge you to maintain
your support by coming along to the Under 19’s fi nals
matches which will be played on Sundays at Walker Park,
Mitcham. Our Junior Club has four teams playing in YJFL
Grand Finals this Sunday and we wish these teams every
success on that day, and congratulate them on making it all
the way through. Check out the Sharks Junior Club website
sharksjfc.org.au for details of times and venues for these
matches. Park Orchards has two upcoming events to fi nish off
the 2012 season. Firstly our vote count day will be held at the
Club rooms on Sunday 16 September commencing around
12.30pm, followed by our Presentation Night on Friday 28
September. Keep both these dates free and we look forward to
seeing all Sharks players and supporters there. GO SHARKS!
SILVAN: After a long and tough home and away season
we have reached what every club and player strives for: the
Finals. Finishing third on the ladder and giving ourselves
the double chance is a great effort by Chris Goodlet and his
coaching staff. After a hard fi rst season in the EFL where we
fi nished 11th to be where we are now is a huge achievement.
Last Saturday night we had the counting of the club's Best
and Fairest awards. Taking out the seniors was Daniel
Toohey who just shaded his brother Sean by two votes. The
Reserves was another close count with David Short taking
the honours and in the Colts skipper Damien Nelson was
victorious. Congratulations to all three and to the second and
third place getters as well. Today we take on old rival South
Belgrave for the right to face The Basin next week. Thanks
again to all our valued sponsors, Tara Press, Clearshield,
Bendigo Bank (Wandin/Seville branch), Porter Davis
Homes, Veolia, Blue Hills Berries, Superfi nish Prestige
Repairs, Club Kilsyth, Eco Liquid Waste, Mipa Paints,
Central Scaffolds, Silvandale Transport, Perftech, Cracka
Wines, Bretrac Engineering, Foothills Finanical Services,
R & E Panelmasters, J & N Excavations, Aegis Australia,
Wandin Pizza Bar, Bakker & Co, Roadfresh Transport and
Boronia IGA. Good luck today, Go Cats.
SOUTH BELGRAVE: The fi nal home and away round
was one of mixed fortunes last Saturday. In appalling
conditions only the Reserves notched up a win. The U19’s
were unable to repeat the win over The Basin last time
they met, but nonetheless should be excited about playing
fi nals this weekend. The boys lost skipper Dean in the fi rst
few minutes of the game and in the mud of Batterham
48
Reserve it was diffi cult to get any momentum going. The
boys peppered the goals but behinds were the result. Sonny
managed two goals and Matt 1. Andy, Matt, Sonny Daraio,
Jordan and Shae were named in the best. The Reserves
retained top spot, winning the minor premiership and can
look forward to the week off. Small forward Tibbs kicked
three goals and was named in the best along with Macca,
Rogo, Flipper, Rowds and Spewy. The seniors played a tight
match although let The Bears get a three-goal start. But they
reversed the trend, kicking three goals in the second term
and keeping The Basin scoreless. A shot from the pocket
by Dave Bilston after the half time siren levelled the match.
It was a low-scoring game, but a lovely goal by Cogga put
South in front but we were unable to hang on and The Basin
ended up winning by 2 goals. Bilso and Cogga both booted
two goals, with Liam and Apples one a piece. It was diffi cult
to make out players in the end as everyone was covered in
mud and the ball impossible to control. Burls, Brock, Check,
Bilso and Aba were named in best. This week the Senior
team takes on Silvan in a Qualifying fi nal at Walker Park on
Saturday and the U/19’s play The Basin again at Tormore
Reserve on Sunday in an Elimination Final. Good luck to all
the boys and do yourselves and your club proud. Presentation
Night tickets are now available for sale. It’s on September
28th at The Mulgrave Country Club See Jo or D Mac for
your tickets. GO SOUTH!!!!
THE BASIN: Another Home and Away season has now
come to an end for the Bears. What a great year it has been
for all our Senior Sides. Last week’s games against South
Belgrave produced two wins. The colts had a good win and
will face South Belgrave again in the elimination fi nal. What
a great effort by all involved to get a side together and make
yet another fi nals series. Well done to Mark Adams who has
coached the colts for the last eight years and will be stepping
down at the end of the season. Let’s send him off on a good
note. The ressies dropped last week’s game but showed some
good signs and will be strengthened by the return of some
senior players for this week’s fi nal. Great effort to make the
fi nals as it has been a struggle all year to get a side on the
fi eld. The Seniors had a hard fought win in the last game of
the season and notched up our 16th win for the year which
is a club record. Fantastic effort by Pickles and his coaching
staff to get the boys on top of the ladder without dropping a
game. We all know that the hard work starts now and all our
effort will be focused on having a good fi nals series. With
a week off, we can get ourselves primed and ready for the
coming weeks. A big congratulations to Steve Kruger and
the under 17’s who won there grand fi nal match last week.
What a turn around the boys have done from last season.
From being the whipping boys to undefeated premiers is an
extraordinary achievement and the whole club is proud of
their efforts. Well done guys. Don’t forget, Presentation night
is 21 September at the Knox Club. Tickets are limited so see
Josh Wilson and Gary Rule for your booking. Good luck to
both the ressies and colts for the elimination fi nal, do your
best and work hard for each other. GO BEARS……….
