Calvary Health Care Bethlehem 2010 – 11 Annual Report 12 About Us Volunteer Services Volunteer Services are an integral part of our Mission and valuable members of our interdisciplinary team, contributing to the holistic care of our patients, day centre groups and community patients. We are fortunate enough to have 70 committed volunteers who have supported us over the year, with more than 9800 hours of work provided. Volunteers have continued to share their time, skills and expertise, perform varied tasks which have contributed to the work in the neurological and palliative care areas. Volunteers contributed in the manner of social support, a wide range of services and activities including massage to patients, transport patients to appointments, provide pet therapy and assist with administrative tasks. This year Volunteer Services had the opportunity to visit a diverse range of places of worship by participating in the City of Greater Dandenong ‘Inter Faith Tour’. After completing the tour our volunteers received a greater understanding of the cultural and religious practices of Buddhism, Hinduism and Greek Orthodox followers. A great honour this year was when 13 of our volunteers were nominated for the City of Glen Eira Volunteer’s Recognition Awards. The award ceremony was conducted at the Caulfield Town Hall by Mayor Esakoff in May 2011. Three of our volunteers who work on the St Teresa’s Ward Volunteer Team were invited to attend the 2011 Minister of Health Volunteer Awards Ceremony held at Olympic Park. Our 2011 Volunteer Education Program offered by our Centre for Education and Development saw new volunteers completing the nationally accredited Certificate III in Deliver Care Services Using a Palliative Approach. “The ultimate goal of Catholic health care is to give those who are ill through our care a reason to hope”.
