SCHUFA generates alternatives
Anyone selling products on the internet or providing material prohibited for people under
18 years of age must make sure that minors have no access to it. This is required by the
Youth Protection Law and the Interstate Treaty for the Protection of Minors from Unsuitable
Media Content. In practice this regulation is difficult for internet providers to comply with, as
the German Commission for the Protection of Minors from Unsuitable Media Content
stipulates that age verification be performed face to face with identification documents. This
is difficult for an internet business with no personal contact. Up until now the only option
providers had was to employ the PostIdent method.
We have now developed an alternative for age verification on the internet that is considerably
faster and less expensive. As part of a two-step procedure it has already received positive
marks from the German Commission for the Protection of Minors from Unsuitable Media
Content: the SCHUFA IdentityCheck for Age Verification. This SCHUFA system can be
conveniently integrated into existing age verification systems and is virtually industry-neutral.

To make a contribution towards allowing internet material and products harmful to young
people to be used only by adults, the SCHUFA IdentityCheck for Age Verification verifies the
user age in two steps:

1. You can check the age of the person ordering the product or service with us during
the ordering process. We use our database for this purpose, which contains the dates
of birth of almost all persons conducting business transactions in the Federal
Republic of Germany.
Thanks to the constant exchange of information with our contractual partners we are
always completely up-todate. If the customer agrees we provide information on the
data stored in our database fast and simply – but not on creditworthiness.
2. With regard to the required face-to-face control, we use identifications that have
already been performed by banks, for example presenting a passport when the
consumer opened an account. If his or her identity was positively confirmed, a note
was put into the SCHUFA database with what is known as the SCHUFA Q-Bit.
All that is left for you to do is to personally send the access data or the product to the buyer
by registered post or a similarly qualified alternative to get his or her personal
acknowledgement.
The SCHUFA service IdentityCheck for Age Verification is an affordable and time-saving
method of verifying consumer age for providers of material or products that are harmful to
minors.
