Salisbury is owned by Guy and Frances
Rasch. Frances, who ‘inherited’ the historic
eight acres of plantings on her marriage more
than a decade ago, runs the garden. She
worked in London, restoring antique
furniture and knew little about plants and
plantings; now she knows a lot and manages
the riverside garden with a care that borders
on obsession.
Snowdrops and the yellow aconites that
bloom at the same time will be the focus of
this year’s opening at the beginning of
February with two special Snowdrop Sundays
on which visitors may stroll along the
‘snowdrop walk’. They’ll also be able to enjoy
the rest of Heale, including the famous
Japanese Garden, the ‘tunnel garden’ and the
riverside walks. V

Heale Garden opens on 1 February
2009 and is open from Weds-Sun
10.00-17.00. Snowdrop Sundays are
celebrated on 8 and 15 February. The
garden is at Middle Woodford, four
