Prof. N.H. Wadia is the Director, Department of Neurology, Director of Research Jaslok
Hospital and Research Center and Consultant Neurologist at the JJ Group of Hospitals, Grant
Medical College. His research contributions include manganese intoxication in Indian
miners, Myelopathy of Congenital Atlanto axial dislocation (CAAD), Nutritional disorders of
the nervous system, Hereditary spino-cerebellar ataxias, Myelo radiculopathy complicating
spinal meningitis, and neurocysticerosis. The high prevalence of CAAD in India, the
identification of autosomal dominant spinocerebellar ataxia SCA2 and enterovirus 70
diseases are some of the highlights of his research. He published a book entitled
“Neurological Practice: An Indian Perspective” which covers neurological literature by
Indian Neurologists pointing out variable presentation and prevalence of neurological
diseases in India as compared with the West, rounding off years of clinical practice, teaching
and research experience.
He has delivered many prestigious Orations such as Chandy Oration, Sarabhai Oration,
Baldev Singh Oration. He was awarded DSc (Honoris Causa) by the Banaras Hindu
University and is the recipient of Rameshwardas Birla National Award for an outstanding
practicing clinician in modern medicine.
