and building positive relationships outside<br />
of gangs for a period of at least five years after<br />
release from prison. This, too, may require additional<br />
funding from grants either at the federal<br />
level or from private foundations. The plan<br />
should include proposals to seek such grants.<br />
The strategy calls for all identified criminal gang<br />
members in state or county correctional systems,<br />
upon release, to register with an identified state<br />
office, and keep their address, contact information<br />
and job status current for ten years after release<br />

for a period of at least five years after release<br />
from prison. The rehabilitation and re-entry plan<br />
should address how this is to be structured and<br />
accomplished and include a plan and timetable<br />
for any changes in regulations or law that may be<br />
necessary.<br />
The Department of Corrections should call upon<br />
members of the coordinating council for any assistance<br />
they may be able to give in developing or<br />
carrying out this plan.<br />
