Blackfriars Restaurant in Newcastle – which
earlier this year picked up the prestigious Taste of
England title in the North East England Tourism
Awards – is taking over Café K on May 9.
It marks a welcome return to Tynemouth for Blackfriars’
owner Andy Hook, who ran the village’s critically acclaimed
and much missed Sidney’s Restaurant.
Head chef Troy Terrington is offering a menu which reflects
the school canteen space, Blackfriars’ new FatFriars street
food concept and the classic but gutsy traditional British
dishes the restaurant has become famous for.
Andy says: “We are truly delighted to be invited to take part
in this year's Tynemouth Food Festival and will be offering
something a bit new.
”FatFriars represents the culinary journey British cuisine took
from the Gardens of Baghdad, the epicentre of creative
gastronomy, through North Africa and up into Europe and
Britain over 1,000 years ago.
The Seaside SupperKlub @ King’s opens for the
final time on May 10 with David Kennedy holding
court at a special Tynemouth Food Festival gala
night at £42.50 a head.
He is bringing his Vallum artisan experience to the coast with
a fantastic five-course Northumbrian tasting menu parading
the ingredients he has on his doorstep at David Kennedy at
Vallum.
These include heritage vegetables from North Country
Growers which works out of Vallum Kitchen garden,
handmade breads from baker Murray Rhind, locally foraged in
season produce and fish from Bywell Smokery.
The spring menu will also include a glass of fizz and two
glasses of wine from Wine Chambers in Tynemouth to match
the food.
“Influenced by the merchants of the
time, the market stall food they ate
along the way and the spices they
brought back, FatFriars is a melting pot
of full-on lewd food with zingy fish,
burgers and unctuously sticky puddings.
It will also be a lot of fun!”
The meal costs £35 per person.
