From a fito-climate point <strong>of</strong> view, the <strong>for</strong>ests in U.B. I<br />

Bistrita are in the durmast, beech and durmast-beech<br />

sector.<br />

The U.B. limits are natural (peaks and waters) and<br />

artificial – the Forestry Department in Valea Sieului to<br />

the north, south and west; U.B. II Orchards to the<br />

north; Cusma Common Ownership to the east. The<br />

<strong>for</strong>est reserve is divided into 28 lots. The functions <strong>of</strong><br />

these <strong>for</strong>ests were established according to social,<br />

economic and ecological objectives. As a<br />

consequence, the trees were included in groups, subgroups<br />

and functional categories, as follows:<br />

Group I<br />

1.1.A. – Forest situated in the area protected <strong>for</strong><br />

drinking water springs: 2.3 ha<br />

1.2.A – Forest situated on rocks, on detritus, on<br />

deeply eroded land, on land with inclination higher<br />

than 35 degrees: 76.4 ha<br />

1.2.H – Forest situated on sliding land: 0.7 ha<br />

1.4.B – Forest around Bistrita municipality: 1,358.3 ha<br />

1.4.J – Forest with high hunting interest, established<br />

by the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, Forests and Rural<br />

Development: 371 ha<br />

1.4.K – Forest that protects special objectives,<br />

established by the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, Forests and<br />

Rural Development: 17.9 ha<br />

1.5.H – Forests used as reservations <strong>for</strong> producing<br />

<strong>for</strong>est seeds in line with the seed reservations<br />

catalogue and <strong>for</strong> preserving the geno-<strong>for</strong>est reserve:<br />

127.8 ha<br />

Group II<br />

2.1.B – Forests meant mainly to produce thick trees <strong>of</strong><br />

superior quality <strong>for</strong> timber: 1,008.9 ha<br />

2.1.C – <strong>for</strong>ests meant mainly to produce average and<br />

thin trees <strong>for</strong> cellulose, rural constructions and other<br />

uses: 141.6 ha<br />

TOTAL U.B.: 3,104.9 ha<br />

Following classifications, 4 soil classes were identified<br />

with 9 types and sub-types <strong>of</strong> soil. The most common<br />

types are:<br />

- Brown soil pseudogleizat: 26%<br />

- Brown soil eumezobazic: 25%<br />

- Brown soil luvic typical: 23%<br />

- Brown soil argiloiluvial typical: 13%<br />

MUNICIPALITY<br />

Ten types <strong>of</strong> resorts and 17 types <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>ests were<br />

identified. From a point <strong>of</strong> view, 32% <strong>of</strong> the surface<br />

contains resorts <strong>of</strong> superior land 60% <strong>of</strong> the surface<br />

has resorts <strong>of</strong> average bonity.<br />

Total <strong>for</strong>est - 3,136.6 ha<br />

Surfaces covered with <strong>for</strong>est - 3,104.9 ha<br />

Land used <strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>est production - 7.7 ha<br />

Land serving the needs <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>for</strong>est administration - 19.3 ha<br />

Unproductive land - 4.6 ha<br />

Litigations - 0.1 ha<br />

The index <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>est use is 99.0%, 0.9% representing<br />

land used <strong>for</strong> the <strong>for</strong>est management and 0.1% as<br />

unproductive fields.<br />

The main characteristics <strong>of</strong> the <strong>for</strong>est reserve in U.B. I<br />

Bistrita:<br />

Composition: 43% GO, 20% CA, 13% FA, 6% MO;<br />

4%ST; 2%DT; 3%DM; 1%DR<br />

Production class: 3.0<br />

Consistency: 0.78<br />

Current growth: 5.0 (m 3 /year/ha)<br />

Average volume: 232 (m 3 /ha)<br />

Total volume (m 3 ): 720,425<br />

The structure <strong>of</strong> the <strong>for</strong>est resources (main products,<br />

preservation, secondary products, hygiene cuttings):<br />

- Main products .................8,500 m 3 /year<br />

- Conservation cutting.............96 m 3 /year<br />

- Secondary products.........1,446 m 3 /year<br />

- Hygiene cuttings..................100 m 3 / year<br />

Total volume per basic Unit – ....10,142 m 3 / year<br />

The Basic Unit I Bistrita is part <strong>of</strong> the hunting reserves<br />

<strong>21</strong>0 Dumitra, 22 Poieni, 23 Cusma and 24 Simionesti.<br />

The main game is wild boar and deer, the secondary<br />

game is the Carpathian stag. Wolf, marten, fox, wild<br />

cat can also be hunted here. The fauna includes the<br />

grouse. The hunting reserves are included in the 2nd<br />

bonity category <strong>for</strong> the mentioned species.<br />

Transport infrastructure has a length <strong>of</strong> 41.5km, <strong>of</strong><br />

which public roads account <strong>for</strong> 29.2km and <strong>for</strong>est<br />

roads 12.3 km. These ensure 100% accessibility to<br />

the <strong>for</strong>est reserve.<br />

The programme to renovate the <strong>for</strong>est reserve<br />

belonging to Bistrita municipality over the next 10<br />

years aims to create 3 recreational areas <strong>for</strong> the<br />

citizens <strong>of</strong> the municipality and the <strong>local</strong>ities therein
