foreign tourists looking
for a quiet mountain
It should be noted that
this town has won
twice the tourist award
everyone.”
In the park of the city
of Alegria, the bust in
memory of educator
Presbytery José Miguel
Alegria is erected. He
was a remarkable
professor of Latin who
founded in the town of
Tecapa around 1838, a
philosophy school.
Because of the Law of
February 17 of 1891,
the city of Tecapa was
denominated city of
Alegria. This famous
professor's body
remains in the crypt of
this population's
parochial church.
The current temple of
Alegria began being
built on August 26,
1870. Alegria is the
Lake Olomega is a
large lake in the
southeastern part of El
Salvador.
Lake Olomega is
located next to the
town of Olomega
(population 4000). The
community relies
heavily on fishing and
ecotourism. The
canton Los Riitos has
geothermal water and
can most easily be
reached by boat (as
long as the nimfa does
not prevent boat
travel). With Ramsar
status, the
Government can make
sustainable development
in the area,
thanks to international
support.Olomega is the
eastern region of El
Salvador's, largest
freshwater body. The
LAKE OLOMEGA
site also includes the
surrounding
vegetation, such as
herbaceous swamps
and a patch of forest
seasonally saturated,
known as the Chiriqui
and one of the last
relics of this type of
community in El
Salvador.
The hydrological
features of the site
include flood control,
water purification, and
the replenishment of
groundwater, serving
for more than 9,000
inhabitants of the area.
An electronic report of
the Ramsar
Convention details
show that the lagoon is
home to several
endangered species,
such as the royal duck,
dark ibis, the snail and
the tree frog.
This wetland, which
measures 7,557
hectares, serves as the
resting and feeding
ground for many
migratory birds.
Transportation:
Olomega can be
reached either by
taking a bus directly to
the town, although the
bus to Olomega does
not run often, or by
getting off at El
Carmen (the pueblo,
just off the highway)
and waiting for a truck
to go to Olomega.

We are an organization driven to educate
and entertain the Salvadorian public with
this fast paced, hard-hitting, yet organized
and disciplined American team sport.
We're interested on developing the
knowledge as well as the participation of
the salvadorean community this great
sport: American Football.
“Football is like life, It requires
perseverance, self-denial, hard work,
sacrifice, dedication and respect for
authority. Football doesn't build character
it reveals it”
Maximo A. Blanco
Head - Coach
We’re burning down the house!!!

Representatives of SAAIF are visiting schools to
teach and implement our favorite sport in to the
salvadorian schooling system. Our members are
periodically reminded of their role as an
ambassador to the sport, and their
responsibility to pass it on.
We feel that American Football offers an
interesting alternative to youngsters with
tendancies to obesity. SAAIF trusts that
American Football will stimulate many
youngsters to start practicing the sport of
American Football, knowing that their only
alternative is soccer, which is not suited for
everyone. In addition, a team of American
Football offers many more positions and
possibilities for a school, as it requires many
more players to constitue a team. The only
obstacle is money, as always, to gear up the
team.
MISSION:
Create leaders of change and social
impact using ressources that promote
options for a better way of life, ethics and
health
VISION:
Be a social reform and development
catalyst for youth utilizing American
Football and be recognized nationally
and internationally as a superior
education leader.
VALUES:
Respect authority. Abide to laws and
rules. Respect your neightbor and coplayer.

Steve Agreda, from SAAIF
says: “There’s a lot of
violence in El Salvador and
they don’t have too much
extra-curricular activity, so
you have a lot of kids from
the ages of 8 to about 15 who
are vulnerable to the gang
violence that’s prevalent
down there,” Indeed, the
Mara Salvatrucha gang, is one
of the most feared criminal
organizations in the world
with roughly 50,000 members
in the United States, El
Salvador and other countries
in Central America. The
ruthless gang first sprung up
in the 1980s in Los Angeles,
formed by the children of
immigrants from El Salvador
who had moved north to
escape war and poverty.
Agreda moved to El Salvador
full-time in 2009 to spearhead
efforts to start an American
football program to try to keep
kids off the streets and out of
gangs. That year, a 24-year-
old cousin succumbed to
cancer. It was through an
organization formed out of
that tragedy, Belief Will
Change the World, that Agreda
found himself in his ancestral
homeland. “I played football
myself so I’m passionate
about it,”
Agreda said, when asked why
he chose football as his
vehicle to try to make a
difference. “The sport
allowed me to stay far from
gang life growing up in Los
Angeles. Football is a sport
where you can have
individual efforts in a team
unit to accomplish a lot.
That’s definitely what we
wanted to try to get across to
children in El Salvador, that
through individualism and
working together, you can
become socially responsible
to create a better future for
the country.” The result has
been SAAIF, the Salvadorian
Association of American
Intramural Football. It was
through his work with SAAIF
that Agreda found himself in
Japan for a working holiday.
Tommy Wiking, the president
of the International Federation
of American Football (IFAF)
was in El Salvador in
November and he mentioned
to Agreda that Japanese
football was “very
disciplined.”
Agreda said that through the
SAAIF, they hope to nurture
the league so that one day it
might “actually develop
talent, maybe send a player
to Japan, give people
something to shoot for”. But
that, adds Agreda, would just
be a bonus. “The No. 1 goal is
to teach children the sport
and the beauty of the sport,
which is the camaraderie
between individuals,” he
said. “As far as the children
go, we will stay committed to
that.”
