OUTLINE RESPONSIBILITIES
MEDWAY COUNCIL
1. Provide a 24-hour point of contact for alerts and warnings, and for the
management of large volumes of public calls

2. Send an Incident Officer to the Incident Scene to liaise with National grid LNG
Grain Personnel, emergency services and any other organisation involved in the
emergency response.
3. In conjunction with National Grid, the police, the health authorities and the
Environment Agency, provide information to the public.
4. In conjunction with Kent Police, manage traffic diversions and road closures
5. When safe, clear debris / restore highways and arrange for inspection and
emergency repairs.
6. Put in place an emergency management structure to oversee Medway Council
activities.
7. Provide a service in relation to dangerous structures
8. Implement animal health measures
9. Alert and coordinate voluntary organisations
10. Arrange for military aid to the Civil Community
11. Open and run emergency assistance centres as required
12. Provide accommodation for the temporarily homeless
13. Provide specialist care for vulnerable people affected
14. Establish, operate and close down emergency mortuaries in cooperation with
other agencies
15. Manage the long-term recovery arrangements
16. Provide representation at multi-agency emergency coordination centres.
