<strong>Skyttea</strong> insignis ascomatibus 150-225(-500) \xm diam., margine 70-105(-150) nm crasso, poro<br />

10-30 (im diam., excipulo viridibrunneo, K+ olivaceo, basaliter pro parte brunneo, K+ violaceo,<br />

pilis 15-30 \im longis, ascis 35-55 x 4-5-6-5 ^m, ascosporis 6-12 x 3-4 \im.<br />

Typus: New Zeal<strong>and</strong>, Auckl<strong>and</strong>, Kawakawa Bay E <strong>of</strong> Auckl<strong>and</strong>, Papanui Point, 36°56'S,<br />

Ascomata initially immersed, later erumpent, rarely gall-forming, dispersed<br />

or aggregated, black, ± roundish, sometimes elongate, 150-225(-300) jam<br />

diam., up to 500 urn long if elongate; margin in opened ascomata 70-105 um<br />

thick ( x 80), in <strong>the</strong> largest ascomata even 100-150 urn, striate, sometimes<br />

with several deep fissures <strong>and</strong> appearing cruciate; pore 10-30 um. Exciple<br />

laterally greenish to olivaceous, K+ olivaceous brown, 20-45 um thick,<br />

basally greenish brown, with a reddish brown, K+ purple or violet pigment,<br />

25-45 um thick; excipular hairs olivaceous, straight, wall apically not thickened<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>refore not refractive, 15-30 x 3-4 jim. Subhymenium hyaline,<br />

10-20 um thick. Hymenium 35-60 um thick. Epihymenium hyaline to pale<br />

olivaceous. Paraphyses filiform, simple, 1-5-2-5 um thick. Asci subcylindrical,<br />

wall apically thicker, (6-)8-spored, 35-55 x 4-5-6-5 um; ascogenous<br />

hyphae with croziers. Ascospores hyaline, ellipsoid, non-septate, biguttulate,<br />

(5-)6-12 x 3_4(_4-5) urri; exceptionally 1-septate.<br />

Hosts. Pertusaria cf. coccodes (from Kenya: sterile, isidiate, K+ red), P.<br />

heterochroa, P. melanospora <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Pertusaria species (thallus). In some<br />

specimens, <strong>the</strong> fungus has induced <strong>the</strong> formation <strong>of</strong> galls.
