Host. Loxosporapustulata (thallus). The two last century specimens (incl. <strong>the</strong><br />

holotype) are very much reduced <strong>and</strong> do not allow a study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> thallus by<br />

TLC; however, as <strong>the</strong> thalli in both specimens react K <strong>and</strong> KC + yellow <strong>and</strong><br />

C —, <strong>and</strong> strongly resemble recently collected thalli <strong>of</strong> L. pustulata, we<br />

consider <strong>the</strong>m as belonging to that species.<br />

Distribution. USA (Arkansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, North Carolina <strong>and</strong><br />

Rhode Isl<strong>and</strong>).<br />

Observations. Initially, this species was considered to be a lichen belonging<br />

to <strong>the</strong> genus Gyalecta. Tuckerman (1882) subsequently recognized that he had<br />

described a lichenicolous fungus growing on 'a white thallus with little doubt<br />

to be referred to Pertusaria multipuncta'. Recently, Santesson (in Esslinger &<br />

Egan 1995) pointed out that Gyalecta radiatilis is a lichenicolous fungus,<br />

perhaps a <strong>Skyttea</strong>. We confirm here that <strong>the</strong> species is a typical member <strong>of</strong>
