cylindrical-fusiform, straight or curved, non-septate, multiguttulate [living<br />

ascospores!], 12-17 x 2-5-4 (im.<br />

Host. On <strong>the</strong> thallus <strong>of</strong> Pertusaria ophthalmiza.<br />

Distribution. USA (Washington) <strong>and</strong> Canada (Vancouver Isl<strong>and</strong>).<br />

Observations. This species is very close to L. pyrenulae. For differences, see<br />

<strong>the</strong> identification key.<br />

Additional specimen examined. Canada: British Columbia: Vancouver Isl<strong>and</strong>, Port Renfrew,<br />

Botanical Beach, 48°31'N, 124°25'W, alt. 0-50 m, on Picea, 1994, Aptroot 35367 (h, hb.<br />

Diederich).<br />

LUmoniella pyrenulae Diederich & Etayo sp. nov.<br />

A LUmoniella pertusariae ascomatibus aggregatis, ascomatis margine minus prominenti, haud alta<br />

quam parum concavo ad valde convexo disco, interdum fere evanescenti ubi veterem, ascosporis<br />

15-25 x 2-5-3-5 urn et ascis 40-55 x 5-7 urn differt.
