The new species is named after our friend, P. van den Boom (Son,<br />

Ne<strong>the</strong>rl<strong>and</strong>s), who collected <strong>the</strong> material <strong>and</strong> allowed us to describe it in this<br />

paper.<br />

<strong>Skyttea</strong> cruciata Sherwood, D. Hawksw. & Coppins, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 75: 484 (1981<br />

['1980']); type: Irel<strong>and</strong>, Co. Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, near Ballyoughteragh, N <strong>of</strong> Ballyferriter, on<br />

saxicolous Diploicia canescens, 9 viii 1978, Poelt (GZU—holorypus, vid.).<br />

Ascomata dispersed, immersed to erumpent, broadly attached to <strong>the</strong> substratum,<br />

black, 150-250 |xm diam., initially almost closed, except for a<br />

pore-like opening, covered by <strong>the</strong> exciple which divides by 3-4 deep cruciately<br />

arranged fissures in older ascomata, hairs not visible. Exciple brown to orange<br />

brown, K —, paraplectenchymatous, not prolonged in a stipe, laterally 15-<br />

20 |im; hairs hyaline to brown, smooth, septate, restricted to <strong>the</strong> excipular<br />

margin, up to 20 x 2-5 (an. Hymenium with paraphyses easily separating.<br />

Epihymenium green, K+ olivaceous. Paraphyses septate, hyaline, 2-2-5 (im<br />

thick, simple or sometimes branched (mainly near <strong>the</strong> apex), apically slightly<br />

thicker <strong>and</strong> greenish. Asci subcylindrical, 30-46 x 5-5-7 \im, wall apically not<br />

thickened, KI —, 8-spored; ascogenous hyphae with croziers. Ascospores<br />

hyaline, ellipsoid, non-septate, biguttulate, 7-8-5(-10-5) x (2-5-)3-3-5 |jm.<br />

Conidiomata rare, almost indistinguishable from cruciate ascomata.
