Sessional Objectives<br />
Explain meaning <strong>of</strong> different terminologies: gender, unequal<br />
gender relations, gender equity, gender disparities, gender<br />
inequalities, gender mainstreaming, gender sensitive <strong>and</strong><br />
gender balance.<br />
Describe social, economic <strong>and</strong> political perspectives <strong>of</strong><br />
development in relation to gender equity.<br />
Identify <strong>and</strong> describe importance <strong>of</strong> gender equity issues in<br />
relation to economic <strong>and</strong> human development <strong>of</strong> respective<br />
states<br />
Dr. Poonam Khattar explained in brief the different terminologies used in the<br />
context <strong>of</strong> gender especially in an Indian context. Dr. Jagdish Kaur started by<br />
neglect <strong>of</strong> female child, the <strong>health</strong> problems <strong>of</strong> women throughout the life till<br />
they become old. She discussed the social <strong>and</strong> economic dependence in the<br />
context <strong>of</strong> <strong>family</strong>. The gender relations vary from place to place <strong>and</strong> from one<br />
community to the other. There is an emerging need to provide community<br />
geriatric care to the elderly women. The plight <strong>of</strong> ab<strong>and</strong>oned or mentally ill<br />
