This jointly hosted workshop (Australian Nursing and<br />
Midwifery Federation, SA Branch and the <strong>Joanna</strong> <strong>Briggs</strong><br />
<strong>Institute</strong>) included presentations from Professor Alan Pearson<br />
and Craig Lockwood from the <strong>Joanna</strong> <strong>Briggs</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> and<br />
Doris Grinspun from the Registered Nurses’ Association of<br />
Ontario. In addition to this local South Australian examples<br />
of good practice were showcased.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Joanna</strong> <strong>Briggs</strong> Foundation was officially launched at<br />
Admiralty House, Kirribilly, Sydney, Australia, on Monday<br />
night by its Patron the Governor General of Australia, Ms<br />
Quentin Bryce AM.<br />
<strong>The</strong> launch was attended by a prestigious and exclusive<br />
guest list, including His Excellency Mr Michael Bryce,<br />
Dr Christopher James Lukabyo (High Commissioner for the<br />
Republic of Uganda), His Excellency Stuparu Mihi Stefan<br />
(the Ambassador of Romania), His Excellency Shope Lenin<br />
Magigwane (the High Commissioner for the Republic of<br />
South Africa), His Excellency Ernesto H. De Leon (the<br />
Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines) as well as<br />
members of the Foundation Advisory Board and the <strong>Joanna</strong><br />
<strong>Briggs</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Committee of Management.<br />
Ms Bryce opened proceedings, followed by speeches<br />
from the Director of the Foundation, Emeritus Professor<br />
Judy Lumby and the Chair of the Foundation Advisory<br />
Board, Professor Alison Kitson. Formal proceedings were<br />
followed by drinks and canapes as guests enjoyed a unique<br />
opportunity to network and experience beautiful views of the<br />
harbour, opera house and bridge from this historic location.<br />

<strong>The</strong> role of qualitative evidence in evidencebased<br />
healthcare workshop<br />

This jointly hosted workshop (<strong>The</strong> <strong>Joanna</strong> <strong>Briggs</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />
and the College of Nursing) explored the role of qualitative<br />
research evidence in clinical decision-making and taught<br />
participants about the JBI approach to qualitative research<br />
synthesis. <strong>The</strong> workshop was well attended and generated<br />
vibrant and enthusiastic discussion and debate.<br />
