not here for our country's good, nor for the<br />

good of any one, so why should we endanger<br />

the girls of the nation ?<br />

Every theatrical agent and concert agent<br />

should be registered by the County Council,<br />

and should be held responsible for the engagements<br />

which he obtains for women.<br />

Many of these men are nothing<br />

agents for the procurers and for immoral<br />

houses abroad. It should be required by law<br />

of an agent that he keep a list of all engagements<br />

procured by him for women, and that<br />

he must have the addresses, a photograph,<br />

and full particulars of those taking them,<br />

their home addresses, their parents' signatures,<br />

and the addresses where they are to be sent.<br />

Eurther than this, it must be made compulsory<br />

for him to notify to the police when<br />

he is sending a party of English girls out of<br />

this country, or even when he is sending one<br />

English girl out of this country. The girl<br />

need not necessarily be interfered with ; she<br />

need know nothing about the matter at all.<br />

But if the police know where she is going and<br />

the people with whom she is going to stay,<br />

and they are in communication with the<br />

police of the foreign country, it can instantly<br />

be seen how very careful the agents will be<br />

about sending girls to bad cafes and dancing<br />

saloons and houses of ill-fame abroad. The<br />

people of this country should demand that,<br />

whether they like it or not, the theatrical
