Hotels Around thirty establishments (4-star, 3-star, tourist complexes, small hotels) providing standard comfort are scattered around the coastline between Cayenne and Saint-Laurent du Maroni. Together they have around 1,002 rooms. Gîtes de France Gîtes d’Amazonie Carbets A more typical kind of accommodation in the form of carbets (traditional wooden accommodation) will fulfil the expectations of nature lovers. This type of structure is usually found in the middle of the forest or on riverbanks, in the country’s interior. Since 1999, French Guiana has subscribed to a number of tourist labels, particularly in terms of accommodation: Gîtes de France, Clévacances and Logis de France. The French Guiana Gîtes de France catalogue proposes accommodation in rural and forest environments (bed and breakfast, rural lodges, rest houses, carbets, gîtes d’Amazonie – in all over 20 establishments). According to the commitment of their owners towards the environment and their surroundings, some of these gîtes have been awarded the “gîtes Panda Tropiques” label by the WWF.
