Cayenne Whatever the reason for your trip (business, congress, holiday, etc.), French Guiana offers a host of possibilities to meet a whole range of tastes. In this section, you will find examples of the different trips on offer. Cayenne is a must for every visitor: its traditional architecture, its squares and their history, its museum, and its lively markets are some of the daily charms of this town. Illustrated and explanatory signs help you to identify them. There are other signs on the old port and at Buzaré point. 38 Guided tour of the town • Organised on demand by receptive agencies. Markets Cayenne market • Producers’ market: > Car park, NG, Kon-Tia, open on Saturday. • Vegetable and flower market: > Avenue du Président Monnerville. • Fish market: > Rue du vieux port de Cayenne. Market days are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The market opens at dawn and goes on until early afternoon. There are other fruit and vegetable markets on the coast: > Rémire Montjoly in the Match shopping centre car park: Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm. > Matoury in the Makoupy shopping centre car park: Thursday and Sunday. > Cacao: Sunday. > Kourou in the Kourou shopping centre car park: Tuesday and Friday morning; Saturday in the old town. > Javouhey: Sunday morning. > Saint-Laurent du Maroni: Wednesday and Saturday morning.

Kourou technological Centre The Guiana Space Centre • 54 km from Cayenne. • Opening times: from Monday to Thursday: 2 visits per day at 7.45 am and 12.45 pm. Friday: 1 visit at 8 am. Duration of visit: 3 hours > Inscription and bookings compulsory: Tel.: +33 (0)5 94 32 61 23 from 8 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 5 pm from Monday to Thursday, • Booking deadlines: between 2 days and 1 week in summer. A tour encompassing all the launch sites. Visits are accompanied with a guide in air-conditioned buses. Presentation of a piece of identity necessary for everyone aged 8 and over. Photography (camcorders and cameras) is authorised on the whole site. Animals are not permitted. For safety reasons, there are no visits between 1 and 10 days before the launch of Ariane. Depending on operations on the base, tours and visiting times may be modified. All information is confirmed at the time of booking. The Space Museum • Opposite the Guiana Space Centre • Opening times: All year round, from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm. You can wander around freely, learning about a different space activity at each step: the universe, the conquest of space, “from dream to reality”, European launchers, inhabited flights, satellites, payloads and the future. Your visit can also include the holorama, the lunorama and a slideshow to discover the European space programmes, relive the magical moments of landing on the moon, or an Ariane launch campaign. The museum also has a planetarium, and a temporary exhibition area that provides latest space news. As some observation sites are reserved firstly for launch customers, invitations are issued depending on the number of places available and on the date of request. Free access: you can also watch launches from the CARAPA observation site (12.5 km from the launch zone). This site is open to the public, with no time or age constraints.
