Matriculation is done at the ORIENTATION with the staff of the International Relations Office at the 

main university building, Universität Wien, Universitätsring 1, 1010 Wien! 

If you didn’t do so yet, please go and see our colleagues at the main international office for a date for 

having the ORIENTATION.

Please bring with you: 

1. one passport size photograph (3,5 x 4,5 cm) 

2. the payment form for student union member fee (ÖH-Beitrag) with seal from the bank. This payment 

form you’ll receive at the international office when you ask for an Orientation date there. 

3. one copy of your passport/personal ID-card (with nationality) (if not yet sent to the main international 

office) 

You then will receive your student-ID card, which you should always take with you! 

SCHEDULE FOR SECOND COURSE REGISTRATION PERIOD: 

Wednesday, 26.09.2012 (9 a.m.) – Thursday, 27.09.2012 (5 p.m.) 

After the auction (the day after the main registration period did end) please check in the UNIVIS 

course registration system (https://univis.univie.ac.at/as_anmeldung/) if you were accepted in a course 

or not. 

If you were not successful with one or more courses you should first check if there will be offered 

additional courses with the same content during the second registration period, see above. If there is 

offered an additional course, please register for the additional one and check after the end of this 

second registration if you were accepted or not. 

If there is no additional course offered or if you have not been accepted for an additional course 

please either contact the teacher or the secretary of the course that you are on the waiting list and 

inform them that you are an exchange student. Usually you should receive a place in this course. 

Should there occur any problems please let us know immediately! Some weeks later in the semester 

we cannot help you anymore! 

Please be aware that you have to be in the first lesson of each course, for which you did register for! 

If you do not show up, you will lose your place! If it is not possible to come to the first lesson, 

please inform the teacher directly via e-mail, that you cannot come! 

LEARNING AGREEMENT 

As soon as you have decided which courses you will really follow please fill in the Learning- 

Agreement (the form is attached) and bring it to our office! Deadline: End of October. 

Should there be any changes during the semester, please let us immediately know! Without having 

appropriate information we cannot check any details of courses, grades. 

Without handing in your Learning Agreement you may not receive your transcript at the end of 

the semester!!! 

DROPPING A COURSE 

There is time until 14.10.2012 to drop a chosen course and to try to sign in for another one! If you 

drop a course after this date you will be sanctioned, you will have a FAIL (5) on your transcript of 

records for this course even if you didn’t take part in it. This is a regulation by the director of the study 

programmes and this measure must be carried out by all lecturers! So please make sure to drop a 

disliked course on time! 

ECTS-CREDITS 

The ECTS-Credits for each course you can find in the Online-Vorlesungsverzeichnis of the University 

of Vienna http://online.univie.ac.at/vlvz?lang=en&extended=Y 

Please contact your coordinator at home, how many ECTS-credits you really need to fulfil. In the past 

we did learn that it can be very hard for exchange students to attend courses with a total amount of 30 

ECTS-credits. Therefore we would like to recommend you to take courses with a total of 24 – 26 


ECTS-credits if possible! But this doesn’t mean that it is not possible to take 30 ECTS credits or 

more per semester. 

COURSES AT OTHER DEPARTMENTS/FACULTIES: 

If you are interested in taking courses at other departments, please discuss your wishes directly with 

the departmental coordinator there. However, it cannot be guaranteed that there will be a place 

available to attend the additional course. 

You would have to fill in an extra Learning Agreement form for each field of study, as it has to be 

signed in each case by a different departmental coordinator! 

If you would like to take courses from the department of Economics (study programme Economics) 

you can write them on the Learning Agreement together with the Business courses. We do have 

a cooperation with Prof. Nermuth, the departmental coordinator for Economics) to do so.

Audio Guide Tour 

You have the possibility to borrow audio guides directly at the Portier’s lodge. So you have the chance 

to find your own way through the main building of the University of Vienna. As a highlight of the audio 

guided tour you will find a description of all 154 busts in the arcaded courtyard in detail. 

A folder that you will receive when borrowing the audio guide, will show you all stations of the tour. 

Kosten/costs: € 3,00 

(discounts for students, pupils, basic military service- and civil servants and retirees) 

You have to show a personal identification document for borrowing the audio guides. 

TRANSPORT IN VIENNA: 

It is possible to get a reduced semester ticket for students until the age of 26, who have a valid 

student-ID card of the University of Vienna. Please ask at the big train stations for more information or 

in the “Kundenzentrum Erdberg” of the Viennese Transportation Services. 


REGISTRATION AT THE MELDEAMT: 

Every student has to register at the „Meldeamt“ three days after arrival, at the latest! Therefore you 

take the so-called „Meldezettel“ (you will receive it at the ERASMUS-Point, when you first come there). 

You fill it out and have it signed by the landlord/landlady of your flat or by the director of the student 

dormitory! Then you bring the „Meldezettel“ to the “Meldeamt”. Addresses you will receive at the 

ERASMUS-Point or at: www.wien.gv.at under “Meldewesen”! 

Please don’t forget to de-register at the end of your stay in Vienna! 

Law relating to aliens: Regulation since 01.01.2006 

Since January 1, 2006, all EU/EEA and Swiss citizen, who are staying longer than 3 months in Austria, 

must register within 3 months of arrival at the Municipal Department 35 – Immigration office 

(Magistratsabteilung 35) and receive a confirmation of registration (Anmeldebescheinigung).

Please be aware that the application has to be done within 3 months of arrival. One day later your 

registration cannot be accepted and leads to enormous inconveniences!
