Produce policies and guidance that are relevant in a modern
context. Issue guidance on the sustainable maintenance of

The new Cadw guidance booklet Renewable energy and
your historic building. Installing micro-generation systems:
a guide to best practice was launched on July 20 2010.
Replace existing floodlighting at Cadw monuments with
low-energy lighting, to reduce energy consumption and carbon
emissions by 90%.
October 2010 Under the Assembly Government’s Strategic Capital
Investment Fund Cadw secured almost £1m for a programme
of works for eco-lighting to replace flood lighting with LED units
at seventeen monuments in state care, illumination of historic
town walls within three towns and installation of micro-hydro
power generation at a further three monuments. The project
started in April 2010 and is progressing well. 80% completed
realising a 53% reduction in energy consumption and a 56%
reduction in CO2 emissions.
Include a minimum of 15% recycled materials and actively pursue
energy efficient interventions in all new visitor developments.
October 2010 All new buildings on Cadw estate will be required to
comply with this objective. Proposed new toilet block at Raglan
Castle incorporates in excess of 15% recycled materials, with
high insulation values and photo voltaic water heating.
