Cadw CTW/Civic Trusts/WATs Promote opportunities for voluntary and community participation in research and ‘discovery’, for example, via Heritage Open Doors programme. October 2010 Civic Trust for Wales organized Open Doors programme for August/September 2010 including free entry to all Cadw sites on 12 September. The Welsh Archaeological Trusts provided opportunities for voluntary engagement on archaeological projects throughout Wales including on a number of excavations grant-aided by Cadw during summer 2010. Other volunteer opportunities were provided by the Welsh Cultural Heritage Initiatives at Nevern Castle and Abergwyngregyn.

IfA Cymru Cadw RCAHMW Cadw/ RCAHMW/ WATs/CBA Wales/ Universities Review and clarify priorities for the archaeological research framework by the end of 2010. October 2010 Review of priorities underway with support of IfA Cymru/Wales. The conference took place in September 2010. Draft review papers for all aspects of Welsh archaeology uploaded on website www.archaeology.org.uk Promote partnerships to undertake new research programmes, working with the Royal Commission and other institutions, community groups, special interest groups, higher education institutions and funding bodies. October 2010 Active engagement with partner bodies including discussions with representatives from Swansea University, the Royal Commission and local special interest groups to develop a collaborative research project centred on Neath Abbey. Complete major research projects on Welsh chapels architecture, rural cottages, battlefields and the Swansea Canal by the end of 2012 and identify a programme of new projects in areas of greatest priority. October 2010 Cottages project completed March 2010; battlefields project brought to next stage with Cadw; Swansea canal and chapels projects due for completion by the end of 2012. Additional projects developed on the slate industry, the architecture of Herbert North and industrial workers’ housing. 23
