Greek Mythological Constellations,<br />

Activity 6 -7<br />

Objective<br />

The student should be able to observe the location and discuss the Greek mythological<br />

origin of the zodiacal constellation.<br />

Background<br />

The twelve zodiacal constellations are:<br />

• Aries, the Ram<br />

• Taurus, the Bull<br />

• Gemini, the Twins<br />

• Cancer, the Crab<br />

• Leo, the Lion<br />

• Virgo, the Virgin<br />

• Libra, the Scales<br />

• Scorpius, the Scorpion<br />

• Sagittarius, the Archer<br />

• Capricornus, the Sea Goat<br />

• Aquarius, the Water Bearer<br />

• Pisces, the Fishes<br />

Procedure<br />

• Locate the 12 zodiacal constellations using the Constellation Cylinder or Greek<br />

Mythology Cylinder. (The Do it Yourself Star Finder will also help).<br />

• Then locate the 12 zodiacal constellations on the Starfield Cylinder.<br />

• Optional: refer to the Constellation Locator Script.
