EMPLOYMENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The Township of Essa is currently accepting applications for three (3) winter seasonal positions within the Roads Department. Term of employment will be from November 12, 2012 to April 1, 2013. Patrolperson/Snowplow Operator/Sidewalk Blower Operator Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, these positions are responsible for patrolling the Township road system throughout the winter season (November 12, 2012 to April 01, 2013) including operating heavy equipment and tandem snow plows as needed and each candidate must be able to respond to emergency calls within 30 minutes. Occasionally must be available for fill-in requirements throughout the week, as weather and circumstances dictate. The following shifts will be offered: (a) 2:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday to Friday - 40 hrs/week; (b) 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday – 20 hrs/week; and (c) 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday and Sunday - 16 hrs/week. The incumbents will be required to operate the sidewalk blower, front end loader or plow/sander when required. Depending on the assigned duties, incumbents will report to either the Angus Agricultural Building or the Operations Centre. The preferred candidates will have: • Strong organization and prioritization abilities. • Knowledge of Regulation 239/02, minimum maintenance standards for Municipal Highways. • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions. • Ability to address complaints from the public in a courteous and professional manner. • Possession of a valid driver’s license in good standing. Class D or higher with Z air brake endorsement. • 1-3 years experience operating snowplow/sander combinations on a public highway system. • Experience operating a sidewalk blower/plow would be an asset • Experience operating front-end loader and other related heavy equipment. • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act. • Good record keeping ability. • Working knowledge of computers. • Ability to perform labour-intensive tasks including ability to lift 50lbs. Each of these positions offers a wage of $18.25 per hour. No benefits will be offered. The incumbents will be required to supply their own safety boots.
