JOSHUA WILLIAMS was born in June 1797. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1825 <strong>and</strong> was Apothecary to the London<br />
Hospital between 1826 <strong>and</strong> 1836. Appointed Assistant Surgeon with the Madras Medical Service, 17 December 1836, he later served in the<br />
China <strong>War</strong>, participating in the capture of Canton <strong>and</strong> Nanking. In 1852 he took part in the Pegu campaign, for which he received the medal<br />
<strong>and</strong> clasp. He became a Surgeon June 30 1853, retiring in July 1858. Joshua Williams died at Ryde, Isle of Wight, on 19 November 1883.<br />
