A refurbished turbine rotor will be installed, and the generator rotor will be cleaned, inspected and tested. Piping will be modified to fit the new enclosures. While all of this work is occurring, KIUC personnel will repair the GT2 transformer. When all work is complete in November of this year, GT2 will not require another overhaul for an estimated 10 years. Until the overhaul is complete, KIUC will do its best to ensure all other generating units remain available to maintain the balance of supply and demand. We are in the middle of a green revolution in America, with bright solar arrays, towering wind turbines, hydro and biomass dominating headlines as the future of electric generation. No doubt, those technologies will certainly take on a bigger role in “keeping the lights on.” But despite media hype, they won’t totally replace “conventional” sources for producing electricity in the near future. By Anne Barnes THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS KIUC’s Eighth Annual Membership Meeting Navigating a Challenging Environment About 350 members attended the annual meeting on Sunday, September 12, with several arriving early to claim 5pound bags of rice—the door prize for the first 300 attendees. In addition to the rice, all members received a 99percent recycled ChicoBag and a copy of the annual report. A dinner of chili and rice, green salad, pear cheesecake and manju from Contemporary Flavors was served before the meeting. Entertainment was provided by Kalaheo School’s Sunshine Express—the group that has been entertaining at KIUC’s annual meetings since its first meeting of the membership in November of 2002!
