Safer is Smarter - Kauai Island Utility Cooperative

We listened to our members during the last rate
case and re­designed our bill. Members said they
would prefer a simpler and clearer bill format, so
KIUC is introducing a new bill format that
members will find more informative. Our new bill
illustrated on the next two pages was designed to
be easier to read and to provide members with
more information about their electric charges.
The bill still will include a 13­month energy use
graph, and comparative information on last period
and the same period from the previous year. It
also will include a more detailed breakdown of
current charges including separate line items
for base fuel charge and Energy Rate
Adjustment Clause.
The new bill does not change how the bill is
created, from where the bill is mailed, due dates
or payment options. Members are still divided
into 20 geographical areas, which are referred to
as “cycles.” Meter readers continue to go to each
of these areas once a month to read the meters,
and usage still is determined by subtracting the
last reading from the current reading and coming
up with the kilowatt­hour (kWh) difference.

Monthly billing periods vary between 27 and 33
days. The bills for your cycle will be issued around
the same time each month, but not necessarily on
the same day. The following business day, the data
is processed by KIUC’s billing department, and an
electronic file is sent to KIUC’s bill print and mail
service provider.
Your bill is still due 25 days after the issue date.
For example, if your bill is dated the 2nd of the
month, your bill is due no later than the 27th of
that same month.
KIUC continues to provide various ways for you
to pay your bill, including via mail, automatic bill
payment, phone or online using Western Union
Speedpay, in person at our office or at any Kaua‘i
branch of First Hawaiian Bank.
Remember, even with the new and improved
format, you may view your billing information
online at www.kiuc.coop. Just sign up for e­biz
online account inquiry and follow the steps, and
you will receive notification through email each
time a new bill is issued.
