Sullivan University's philosophy is that students have a richer
college experience and learn better if they are connected and
engaged with the faculty, staff, and students on campus.
Students can choose to participate in a wide range of
student activities and student organizations.
Chili Cook-Off Sullivan's student lounge
was packed with hungry people and crock-pots of chili
for the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off sponsored by the
Computer Club. Students, faculty, and staff brought
in their favorite recipes to compete for prizes and
receive recognition for the best chili on campus.
The Computer Club donated most of the proceeds
to the Secret Santa Project for children in need. The
Cook-off gets more elaborate and scrumptious each
year; so keep your eyes open for that winning chili
recipe for next year's big event!
participated in the Bluegrass Culinary
Association's Silent Auction, donating a
Poetry, sweet treats, and great
conversation were the highlights
of this year's Valentine's
Extravaganza. Students
enjoyed the cookie decorating
and poetry contests. The
highlight of the day came
when singles paired off
to share information about
each other with a time limit
of eight minutes. At the
end of the “date,” male
participants switched and the
process started all over again.
Student Life Representative,
Jill White asked, “How many
of you discovered something
new about each other?”
Jill said,“Half the couples
raised their hands and
one male participant even
said, ‘I didn't know she
was a Bullwinkle fan!’”
Mentors for foster children
Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) members recently volunteered
as mentors for SAFY (Specialized Alternatives for
Families & Youth) for their annual parenting seminar.
SAFY is a not-for-profit agency that provides treatment,
foster care, adoption programs, and services to youth
and their families in need throughout America. While
parents were attending seminars, club members
accompanied children to the Double Stink Hog Farm
in Georgetown, where they visited the petting zoo,
which included kangaroos, zebras, and camels and got
their choice of pumpkins! After lunch, it was off to the
Georgetown Pavilion, where they had the option of
swimming in the indoor water park, playing basketball,
or running around the track. The children were not
the only ones who had a wonderful day. PBL member
Natasha Lawson's excitement was contagious. “This
was an amazing experience,” she said. “I thoroughly
enjoyed helping SAFY. This is a great organization
and I believe what they are doing for these kids is
wonderful. I will definitely be attending the next
SAFY event.”
Bright futures await
Sullivan graduates
More than 4,000 people were
in attendance at the beautiful Southeast
Christian Church to honor the
accomplishments realized by each
and every graduate. Cameras
flashed as families and friends
watched with pride as graduates
from Sullivan University’s Louisville,
Lexington, and Fort Knox campuses
were awarded certificates, diplomas,
associate, bachelor’s, and master's
degrees from Kentucky's largest
independent University.
Two graduations per year
Sullivan’s unique year-round
quarter schedule produces graduates
in March, June, September,
and December, and recognizes
their achievements with two formal
graduation ceremonies each year.
When Angela Browning began
Sullivan University's Master’s in
Business Administration (MBA)
degree program in 2002, her coworkers
said they did not think it
would improve her career opportunities.
Boy, were they wrong!
At the time, she didn't
know for certain if all
of her hard work
would pay off,
but she's been
amazed by the
number of doors
that have opened
since starting
Sullivan’s graduate
school program!
In September 2004, Angela
landed an accounting position with
Wintech, a major automotive parts
provider for Nissan, GM, Honda,
and Subaru. A mere eight months
later, she was offered a promotion
to Accountant II. In addition to the
title change, she received more
responsibility and a huge salary
increase, but what really excited
doors to bigger opportunities!
her proud husband
her was what her employers said
when they offered her the job.
“They said one of the main
reasons they promoted me
was because I received my MBA
degree.” In August, her manager
approached her again, this time
to ask if Angela wanted to
be a Green Belt in the Six
Sigma Quality Control
Process. Angela said,
“He told me that
the Quality Manager,
a Six Sigma Black
Belt, requested me
because he heard
about my MBA and the
improvements I had
made in my department. I was
so thrilled!”
Angela Browning knows first
