same introductory phrase again and again, but use at least 4 if-clauses.
Each student in American high
school has his or her own personal
schedule. In many schools the
schedule is the same every day from
Monday to Friday. That means the
students do the same subjects in the
same order at the same time.
Teachers in an American high school
have their own rooms, so students
move from classroom to classroom to
their different teachers. There are often
only three to five minutes between
lessons.
Students don’t repeat a year as some
students have to in Germany,
but they can repeat a class in a certain
subject. If students fail a subject,
they can do additional work in
summer school during the summer
vacation and pass the subject. Subjects
are divided into requirements
and electives. Requirements are subjects
students have to take. Electives
are subjects students can choose
to take. These are often subjects like
Art, Shop, Music, Drama, or Computer
Science.
Sports and extra-curricular activities
are very important in American
schools. There is a large choice
of activities throughout the year. However,
students do different sports
in different seasons. Practice takes
place after school.
If an American high school student
went to a Bavarian school,
he would be surprised that the
schedule differs from weekday to
weekday.
Additionally, American students
would wonder, why the pupils
usually stay in one or two rooms
the whole day.
Furthermore, American students
would be disgusted by the fact,
tha they might have to repeat a
year.
And last but not least, American
high school students would
probably be angry about the fact,
that sports and extra-curricular
activities don’t play an very
important role in the German
school system and electives are more
school-related.
