musty or fishy smell<br />

itching, soreness and inflammation in and around the vagina<br />

Treat<strong>men</strong>t involves a single dose or a course of antibiotics.<br />

How can I protect myself against all STIs?<br />

Always use condoms <strong>for</strong> penetrative sex –<br />

You or your partner should use a condom every time you have sex whether,<br />

vaginal, anal or oral;<br />

Practise putting one on be<strong>for</strong>e you need it <strong>for</strong> real;<br />

It must go on an erect penis, be<strong>for</strong>e penetration;<br />

Use known brands that are kite marked;<br />

Check the expiry date;<br />

Only use once;<br />

Do not bite the pack <strong>to</strong> open it;<br />

Do not stretch the condom be<strong>for</strong>e putting it on;<br />

Get the right size <strong>for</strong> you: narrow ones called ‘TRIM’ are made by Pasante<br />

(pasante.com); regular size is approximately six inches long by four inches<br />

girth and large is eight inches long by six inches girth;<br />

If you are having penetrative sex with a woman and you have had<br />

me<strong>to</strong>idioplasty, condoms will not fit your micro-penis; you may need <strong>to</strong> ask<br />

your partner <strong>to</strong> wear a female condom;<br />

If you are allergic <strong>to</strong> latex, use polyurethane (Durex, Avanti).<br />

Standard condoms are now thought <strong>to</strong> be robust enough <strong>for</strong> anal sex.<br />

Use lubrication (water-based) – it helps <strong>to</strong> prevent damage <strong>to</strong> mucous<br />

membranes<br />

Remember penetration with anything, hands, fingers, sex <strong>to</strong>ys as well as<br />

penises can <strong>trans</strong>fer infection<br />
