CORPORATE MESSAGE
Another extraordinary year at <strong>Max</strong>
Mike Larkins, President
“At <strong>Max</strong>, we genuinely care about people. We want to build
an extraordinary company that makes a difference in the
lives <strong>of</strong> people throughout the world.”
—The <strong>Max</strong> Code, Principle 1
It’s hard to believe another year has come and almost gone. As a
company, <strong>Max</strong> International can be proud <strong>of</strong> what we accomplished
in 2009. Since the beginning <strong>of</strong> the year, <strong>Max</strong> has experienced
significant growth—nearly 30 percent in terms <strong>of</strong> revenue. It has
been a year brimming with exciting developments, and many more are in the works as
we transition into 2010. Many <strong>of</strong> those developments were presented at Elevate 2009 last
September, which—as many Associates reported—had a unifying and motivating effect
on those in attendance. It has been instrumental in helping so many Associates take their
businesses to the next level, and hopefully elevate their lives in the process.
Values: At <strong>Max</strong> our goal is to be value-driven, not rule-driven. A heightened sense <strong>of</strong>
values seems to happen naturally at this time <strong>of</strong> year, as fond memories mingle with
optimism for the future. Many, however, are experiencing emoti ons <strong>of</strong> a more complex
nature as a result <strong>of</strong> the increasing uncertainty around us. A struggling economy has
created financial concerns for far too many. Health issues are also prevalent. Positively
impacting the health, well-being and economic viability <strong>of</strong> people throughout the world is
a year-round proposition at <strong>Max</strong>.
Global impact: As a result <strong>of</strong> our efforts to take this company to
the world, an expanding global population has begun to experience
a revitalization <strong>of</strong> health and financial well-being. We successfully
opened in the Philippines last summer and are laying the groundwork
to go live in Australia and New Zealand during the first quarter <strong>of</strong>
2010. Watch for more details as we get closer to this important event.
True to the <strong>Max</strong> Code, we will only do so when we are fully ready to
support that market. There is, <strong>of</strong> course, enormous room for growth
in the U.S. and Canada, which remains every bit as important as
international expansion.
2

CORPORATE MESSAGE
Giving back: Using a part <strong>of</strong> our resources to impact the lives <strong>of</strong> those in need is a vital part <strong>of</strong> who we are, and we want
to consistently increase our capacity to do so. As we continue to help fund worthy projects like Amigos <strong>of</strong> Honduras
and Salt Lake City’s School with No Name, we want to find other worthwhile projects and bless the lives <strong>of</strong> people
throughout the world.
CellGevity: <strong>Max</strong> International’s acquisition <strong>of</strong> CellGevity’s technology and assets will be looked upon as a pivotal
move. The value provided to <strong>Max</strong> by Dr. Herb Nagasawa, Scott Nagasawa and Scott Momii can’t be measured. It is a
partnership that will significantly increase <strong>Max</strong> International’s credibility and viability well into the future.
“A” company: Our determination to become an “A” company is, and will remain, at the forefront <strong>of</strong> who we are as a
company, and you, our Associates, will make that happen. As the “<strong>Max</strong> Code” e-book states, it’s our job at Corporate
to put the essential elements into place—vision, product, motivation, and core values—but you will fulfill the mission <strong>of</strong>
making <strong>Max</strong> an “A” company by believing in those values and applying them to your lives and businesses.
The best <strong>of</strong> the best: In our short history as a company we have been privileged to attract quality Associates from
remarkably diverse backgrounds and perspectives. <strong>Max</strong> is also unique in the number <strong>of</strong> Preferred Customers it attracts,
which is substantially above the industry norm. This is a testament to the strength <strong>of</strong> our products. Combined with an
impressive team <strong>of</strong> medical pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, who have embraced our company, <strong>Max</strong> is blessed with a wealth <strong>of</strong> knowledge
and training in all the aspects <strong>of</strong> our company.
One-<strong>of</strong>-a-kind products: Powerful products are an essential part <strong>of</strong> our
quest to become an “A” company. We are privileged to have minds like
Dr. Robert Keller and Dr. Herb Nagasawa behind the development <strong>of</strong> our
products. They are products that successfully withstand scientific scrutiny
and testing, and do what they are designed to do. In terms <strong>of</strong> impact, they
<strong>of</strong>ten exceed people’s expectations—making them extremely marketable
and valuable.
At <strong>Max</strong> we have all the necessary elements to achieve the goal <strong>of</strong> becoming
an “A” company and, and will continue to take strides in that direction. Let’s
work together to make 2010 even better than 2009 and be blessed with
another extraordinary year!
TRIBUTE TO DR. KELLER
Remembering Dr. Keller
The Salt Lake Festival <strong>of</strong> Trees is a long-time fund
raiser for Primary Children’s Medical Center. This
year, <strong>Max</strong> has donated a tree in honor <strong>of</strong> Dr. Robert
Keller. <strong>Max</strong> thanks the people who first had the idea,
then helped decorate this awesome tree to honor
the man whose life’s work impacted so many people
for good throughout the world. Dr. Keller is greatly
missed but his legacy lives on through his research,
his patients and the company, <strong>Max</strong> International,
that came into existence because <strong>of</strong> the one-<strong>of</strong>a-kind
product he spent years researching and
developing, <strong>Max</strong>GXL.
Here is what some <strong>of</strong> our friends on Facebook are
saying about the tree:
I love the tree. We thank you Dr. Keller for all you’ve
TRAINING
REACHING THE MAX SUMMIT
One Step at a Time
Alan Sickman, Crown Associate
Advancing to the Crown Diamond levels <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Max</strong> compensation plan
is sort <strong>of</strong> the Mount Everest <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Max</strong> journey. Alan Sickman was our
first Associate to go Crown under the newly revised compensation plan.
His attitude is, “If I can do it, so can you.”
Sir Edmund Hillary became the first man to summit Everest on May 29, 1953. Since then thousands <strong>of</strong> climbers have
followed in his footsteps. The number will increase over time. The same phenomenon will be true for <strong>Max</strong> Associates
with Crown Diamond aspirations. The number and frequency <strong>of</strong> Associates reaching Crown will increase exponentially
over time and more than likely become a monthly occurrence in the not-distant future.
The newly revised compensation plan will assist with that process as will team leaders throughout the company, who
continue to give their teammates the same level <strong>of</strong> support as Alan has to his team.
Rock solid commitment
Alan has built a reputation as one <strong>of</strong> the hardest working Associates at <strong>Max</strong>. Alan’s commitment to the company hasn’t
wavered since he first joined back in February <strong>of</strong> 2007, just as <strong>Max</strong> International was getting <strong>of</strong>f the ground.
“When I joined <strong>Max</strong> I was too young to retire and I always wanted to be part <strong>of</strong> something that was both challenging
and bigger than myself,” Alan said.
5

TRAINING
That was his mindset when he first met with company leaders in 2007. He was so impressed with the company, the
vision <strong>of</strong> its leaders, and the product they were marketing, he knew this was what he had been looking for.
“I was inspired by their vision <strong>of</strong> making <strong>Max</strong> a legacy company,” Alan said.
On the day he joined, Alan made a commitment <strong>of</strong> no less than five years to the company on the spot. He asked the C<strong>of</strong>ounders
to make the same commitment to him and the company by signing a document that put it into writing, which
each Founder did without hesitation. The partnership that formed between those four men that day should become the
stuff <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong> legend, much like the day that Hillary decided he was going to summit Everest and began to put his plan
into action. Each Associate that is serious and committed to the company enters into a similar partnership.
A steady progression
Hillary started by climbing smaller peaks that got progressively higher. He climbed each with the same level <strong>of</strong>
commitment. From the day Alan signed up he went to work. He employed a simple approach, devoid <strong>of</strong> hype. Alan used
an introductory video followed by a sample <strong>of</strong> product for those who were interested. He focused on recruiting people
that shared his vision and would be equally committed to the company and catch the vision <strong>of</strong> its potential. He has used
this simple, effective approach ever since.
Alan has sponsored an impressive number <strong>of</strong> people but his role has been primarily supportive. Alan has sponsored fifty
people since he joined the company, which—while being a good number—is, by his own admission, hardly a record.
His role has been largely one <strong>of</strong> helping his team build their individual businesses. His team has now grown to over
51,000 Associates and Preferred Customers and accounts for more than 50 percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong> International’s monthly sales
volume. Many <strong>of</strong> the people he has sponsored have advanced from Gold through Triple Diamond on the trail to the <strong>Max</strong>
summit.
Summiting together
Something people tend to forget is that Sir Edmund Hillary didn’t summit Everest alone. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was
with him every step <strong>of</strong> the way and they worked as a team to conquer the world’s tallest peak. Several other climbers
in their expedition made attempts to summit the same week but fell short due to factors largely out their control. Hillary
and Norgay undoubtedly learned from the unsuccessful attempts <strong>of</strong> fellow hikers and built on the collective knowledge
to persevere to the ultimate prize. It was very much a team victory.
“The success <strong>of</strong> each team member contributes to that <strong>of</strong> the whole,” Alan said. “Jean and I couldn’t have achieved
Crown without incredible support from our team, the Co-founders and corporate leadership. The beautiful thing about
this company is you don’t succeed unless your teammates do. It’s a journey we all take together.”
EVENTS/PROMOTIONS-PHILIPPINES
ASSOCIATES GET BUSINESS BOOST
at Philippines’ Elevate Showcase and Doctor’s Symposium
The Elevate Showcase and Doctor’s Symposium in
the Philippines was an enormous success. Nearly
2,000 attendees packed into the SMX Center in
Pasay City to listen to top leaders at the event on
Saturday, November 7. Corporate leaders Greg
Fullerton, Peter Nordberg, Rick Nelson, and Dan
Riordan were joined by field leaders Steve Lee,
Mickey Burns, Hd Yco, and Mon Galvez who shared
an overview <strong>of</strong> the company. They discussed how
far we’ve come in the few short years <strong>Max</strong> has been
in business and our vision for the future.
Each speaker brought a unique perspective and personality to the event for an amazingly multi-faceted experience.
Associates were richly rewarded with insights into ways to build their businesses and found inspiration and camaraderie
that is unique to such events. The Associates were thrilled to have an opportunity to interact with key company players—
many for the first time—and look forward to many more opportunities in the future. One highlight was Greg Fullerton,
whose message was a big hit. He encouraged Associates to nurture passion and place emphasis on what matters most
as they build their <strong>Max</strong> businesses.
<strong>Max</strong> leaders hosted nearly 1,000 Associates at the Doctor’s Symposium Friday, November 6. Vice President <strong>of</strong> Product
Development Dave Bagley joined with Executive Director <strong>of</strong> Product Development Dr. Scott Nagasawa and Platinum
Associate Dr. Daria Davidson to discuss health and wellness and the science behind our exclusive breakthrough product,
<strong>Max</strong>GXL ® . Dr. Nagasawa told the story behind <strong>Max</strong> International’s pivotal acquisition <strong>of</strong> CellGevity’s technology and assets,
and discussed how it will keep <strong>Max</strong> on the cutting edge <strong>of</strong> technology and product development for years to come.
EVENTS/PROMOTIONS-PHILIPPINES
Vice President Rick Nelson observed that the people in the Philippines are both familiar with and very enthusiastic
about glutathione. They were very receptive to the message <strong>of</strong> our medical experts and product developers, which both
reinforced prior knowledge and strengthened their conviction in the one-<strong>of</strong>-a-kind nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong>GXL.
An impressive number <strong>of</strong> Associates have
experienced early success since <strong>Max</strong> launched
in the Philippines in July. These Associates took
center stage Saturday to be recognized for
their efforts. Platinum Associate Hd Yco was
recognized along with 18 Gold, 34 Silver, and 55
Bronze Associates. In the words <strong>of</strong> Rick Nelson,
“With Australia and New Zealand on deck and
vigorous business building in the Philippines,
Canada and the United States, <strong>Max</strong>’s future never
TOOLS-NETWORKING
USING SOCIAL NETWORKING, PART 1
Jason Russell, Communications Manager
Relationship-building is a critical ingredient in any Associate’s successful
network marketing business. To keep your funnel full <strong>of</strong> prospective
recruits and customers, you have to establish a relationship <strong>of</strong> trust with
new people and maintain the relationship over time. As we state in the
<strong>Max</strong> Action Plan booklet, “the key to prospecting is to take a sincere
interest in the people you meet.”
Social networking, if used right, can be a great way for you to connect with people.
But, where do you get started, and how do you leverage it? Facebook, Twitter,
YouTube, and blogging, to name just four avenues, all <strong>of</strong>fer great opportunities to
connect. This article provides tips about Facebook. The rest will follow.
Facebook
I can’t recommend Facebook highly enough. Sure, it’s something that teenagers use to gossip about their friends, or for
grandparents to keep up with their grandkids…but that’s the point. Everyone seems to be on Facebook these days. Go
where the people are. You’ll find countless opportunities to share your message in innocuous ways.
If you don’t have a Facebook account yet, make one today. If it’s completely foreign to you, have one <strong>of</strong> your kids help you get
started. Once you have an account, start adding friends. Start with neighbors, colleagues, relatives, other Associates, etc. As you
meet new people, and when it seems appropriate, add them to your friends on Facebook so that you can drip messages on them.
The best way to share <strong>Max</strong> is to simply tell people what you are up to in your status updates. Instead <strong>of</strong> publishing a status
that says, “Who wants to join my <strong>Max</strong> business?” you can use messages like:
• “Off to Salt Lake City for a <strong>Max</strong> meeting”
• “I love working from home”
• “Ran four miles this morning and feel great. Thanks <strong>Max</strong>GXL!”
• “Watch <strong>Max</strong>GXL TV tonight on DirecTV channel 318”
• “My company is flying me to Hawaii!”
Share what’s exciting about your <strong>Max</strong> business and chances are at least a few people will want to know more. Consider who
will see your messages on Facebook, and tailor accordingly. By the way, since June, roughly 1,900 people have become
<strong>fan</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong> International on Facebook. That’s huge! This provides us with another forum to keep people up to date. We
really appreciate the interactions and feedback we have with our Associates on Facebook.
Keep up the great work!
PRODUCT
FREE RADICALS,
Network Antioxidants and Glutathione
Antioxidants can be produced by the body (these are known as “endogenous” antioxidants), or found naturally in many
foods we consume (known as “exogenous” antioxidants). These antioxidants together maintain our health by protecting
us from damage caused by highly reactive substances known as “free radicals” that can damage cells and tissues.
The body actually produces free radicals in the natural course <strong>of</strong> oxygen utilization and energy production. There are
substances in our environment that also trigger production <strong>of</strong> free radicals such as toxic chemicals, tobacco smoke,
radiation, exhaust fumes and other environmental pollutants.
How are free radicals formed?
Cells in our body are composed <strong>of</strong> smaller units called atoms. Each atom contains a center (called a nucleus) that is
surrounded by particles called electrons. Different atoms each need a specific number <strong>of</strong> electrons surrounding it to be
considered “stable”. If an atom happens to be missing an electron, it is called a free radical. These free radicals naturally
try to find stability by finding another atom to give up an electron. They may “steal” an electron from another stable
molecule—usually in the form <strong>of</strong> a hydrogen atom—which turns this attacked molecule into an unstable and reactive free
radical. This cascading effect can turn many atoms into free radicals which can result in the disruption <strong>of</strong> a living cell. To
prevent this cascade, antioxidants are needed to neutralize these free radicals by stepping in and readily giving up its own
electron, thereby preventing free radical cell damage.
How does the body combat free radical damage?
There are many antioxidants within the body, but there are five key antioxidants
that play important roles in fighting free radicals: vitamin C, vitamin E, co-enzyme
Q10 (CoQ10), alpha-lipoic acid and glutathione. As described by Lester Packer,
Ph.D., these are considered network antioxidants and work together with one
another. What makes network antioxidants special is that they can recycle or
regenerate one another after they have been used to neutralize a free radical. With
the exception <strong>of</strong> glutathione, these antioxidants rely on each other to be recycled
and become functional antioxidants again. Glutathione has the distinction <strong>of</strong> being
the only antioxidant that can actually recycle itself!
The Power <strong>of</strong> Glutathione
Glutathione is the most important and abundant endogenous antioxidant and is found in every cell. The glutathione pool
in our body is called upon to aid the cell in several different functions, but two major uses are to neutralize free radicals,
and to aid in detoxification, in part by neutralizing toxic substances that are ingested or inhaled. This is why it is so
important to support our bodies’ ability to replenish and maintain an adequate supply <strong>of</strong> glutathione by taking <strong>Max</strong>GXL.
FAQ-E-BOOKS
One <strong>of</strong> our new marketing tools at <strong>Max</strong> International is the e-book. This multimedia
resource will provide a wealth <strong>of</strong> information about specific aspects <strong>of</strong> the
company. Such topics as <strong>Max</strong>’s mission to become an “A” company and in-depth
product information come vividly to life through insightful text and engaging video
commentary from key leaders.
Prospects and Associates alike will know exactly where <strong>Max</strong> stands on these and other
important topics with each successive e-book. Here are some questions Associates had
regarding this powerful new tool:
Q. Is the e-book free and, if so, how do I access it?
A. The e-book is free and available through max.com. From the home page click on the
link to the <strong>Max</strong> blog, scroll down to downloads and click on the e-book image, which will
automatically download a PDF <strong>of</strong> the current e-book.
Q. Does <strong>Max</strong> plan to supply a hard copy <strong>of</strong> the e-book for Associates to distribute in the
future?
A. We don’t feel that a hard copy <strong>of</strong> the e-book would be useful because it is a dynamic,
interactive tool with multi-media links that wouldn’t lend itself to, or be best utilized in, a hard
copy format. It can be easily downloaded from the max.com blog and emailed to contacts.
Getting it into the hands <strong>of</strong> contacts as a PDF is even easier than it would be in printed
form and much more useful to your contact. You can provide links to the e-book from social
networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, which tend to get far more exposure than a
traditional hard copy would.
Q. As a marketing tool, what advantages do e-books have over brochures and other tools?
A. E-books will provide a more in-depth analysis <strong>of</strong> various aspects <strong>of</strong> the company than
could be provided in a brochure or other marketing tool. It presents the information in an
interactive and entertaining format that will keep the attention <strong>of</strong> contacts with widely varying
interests and backgrounds.
For example, the current e-book is about “A” companies. Most <strong>Max</strong> Associates have
heard company leaders discuss “The <strong>Max</strong> Code” and, no doubt, have varying degrees <strong>of</strong>
understanding as to exactly what is meant by the concept <strong>of</strong> an “A” company. Through a
series <strong>of</strong> compelling text pages and videos, providing perspectives from top leaders, each
section <strong>of</strong> the e-book breaks down the concept step-by-step for an increasingly in-depth
analysis <strong>of</strong> what an “A” company is, why it is important, and why <strong>Max</strong> is determined to
become and remain an “A” company for decades into the future. When you pass this
information on to your contacts they will know exactly where <strong>Max</strong> stands on this subject and can judge for themselves if
<strong>Max</strong> is a company worth a closer look or if they would like to sign up.
Q. How do I send it to others?
A. You can text it to friends, send it as an email attachment or direct friends to max.com to access it directly from our
Q. Are other e-books in the works?
A. Yes. The next e-book, discussing the importance <strong>of</strong> glutathione and <strong>Max</strong> products generally, should be released
soon. This e-book will discuss why glutathione is vital for health and well-being as well as <strong>Max</strong> International’s role as the
glutathione leader throughout the world. Other e-books are being discussed and will be announced as the time <strong>of</strong> their
MAX GIVES BACK
MAX MOUNTAIN PROJECTS UNDERWAY
Bob Kaelin, Vice President <strong>of</strong> Sales
At the Elevate 2009 Bob Kaelin and Ryan Laws <strong>of</strong> Amigos <strong>of</strong> Honduras presented information about the
<strong>Max</strong> Honduras humanitarian project for 2009 – 2010, which will provide funding to facilitate running water
and build schools in the villages on <strong>Max</strong> Mountain. <strong>Max</strong> Associates generously gave over $7,000 in cash
and pledged monthly contributions totaling $14,000.
Bob Kaelin traveled to Honduras with four members
<strong>of</strong> Amigos <strong>of</strong> Honduras, on October 24, to inaugurate
the first <strong>Max</strong> water project at the <strong>Max</strong> Mountain and
choose the village for the next project.
Bob discovered a country <strong>of</strong> contrasts in Honduras.
Roatan Island’s spectacular scenery and beautiful
resorts are juxtaposed with great poverty and
desperate living conditions. Bob visited a family who
lost their new baby to a simple medical condition. The
baby could have been saved with routine pediatric
surgery. He witnessed families living in makeshift
structures squatting on a mountain side with no clean
water or sanitation systems. He learned that AIDS is rampant in Honduras, affecting between 10 and 15 percent <strong>of</strong> the
population. Families are <strong>of</strong>ten torn apart when men are forced to choose between abandoning their families or risk
infecting them with the virus.
Bob and members <strong>of</strong> Amigos <strong>of</strong> Honduras visited a nursery for
babies who were abandoned or taken away from their mothers by the
government. Bob saw the love and care provided by a small group
<strong>of</strong> dedicated women trying to provide a future for these beautiful
children. The key to their future is the money that is so desperately
needed for them to continue their efforts. If formula can replace
mother’s milk for newborns at a volunteer AIDS clinic, that Bob also
visited, a high percentage <strong>of</strong> these babies will avoid becoming HIV
positive.
The group visited private orphanages and a jungle school high up in
the mountains <strong>of</strong> La Ceiba. Amigos <strong>of</strong> Honduras and <strong>Max</strong> International
help fund these incredible projects. Many children now have a future because <strong>of</strong> the education they are receiving.
16

MAX GIVES BACK
Bob said that visiting the <strong>Max</strong> Mountain and celebrating the
first water project with the entire village was very rewarding.
The men <strong>of</strong> the village were proud to show the work they have
accomplished at the top <strong>of</strong> the mountain, where reservoir tanks
have been built at the water source. Bob gave the head <strong>of</strong> the
village a <strong>Max</strong> shirt and his group gave presents to the children
and played soccer with new balls that were presented to the
children.
They visited another village at the top <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong> Mountain and Bob
contracted with the men to provide the materials to start their
water project. This village has no water or electricity but all the
children will have hope and a future if <strong>Max</strong> continues to support
and donate to this water project.
Please help by donating and pledging monthly donations to Amigos <strong>of</strong> Honduras by visiting http://amigos<strong>of</strong>honduras.org.
RECOGNITION-OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
<strong>Max</strong> International congratulates the October-November
TOP ASSOCIATE RECRUITERS
“<strong>Max</strong>GXL rocks the supplement world”
Jane Case and Helen Kersey are in business together as massage therapists during
the day and work their <strong>Max</strong> business in their spare time. Jane and Helen have worked in
the field <strong>of</strong> nutrition for many years and have looked at many different companies in that
time. Jane said they had been searching for a product that would improve the lives <strong>of</strong>
their clients. They knew the company they would get involved with would have to have
a one-<strong>of</strong>-a-kind product.
“We were not excited when we heard about a glutathione-related product being distributed by a new company,” Jane
said. “But when we listened to Dr. Keller and saw the science behind it, we knew that if it worked the way they said it
would, it would rock the supplement world.”
Jane said there isn’t a person who walks through the door <strong>of</strong> their clinic who doesn’t want more energy and more restful
sleep, and client after client has reported improvements in those areas. Jane and Helen feel that their mission is to impact
lives for the better. Their roles as <strong>Max</strong> Associates helps them accomplish this.
“We are so passionate about getting this information out to everyone we know and anyone else who will listen,” Jane said.
“We don’t have time to educate everyone about glutathione but Dr. Keller’s CD does a <strong>fan</strong>tastic job <strong>of</strong> that. Education is
the key to success no matter what you are pursuing.”
Knowledge sparks motivation
Marcelino Lustina is originally from the Philippines and is currently living in Arlington, Texas. He joined <strong>Max</strong> in August,
2009, when his friend Thanh Nguyen told him about the company and mentioned it was opening in the Philippines.
Marcelino felt it could have a great impact on the lives <strong>of</strong> his friends and family in that country. Marcelino truly became
sold on the company a month later when he attended Elevate 2009 in Salt Lake City, and that is when his business really
took <strong>of</strong>f.
“Convention jumpstarted my success in recruiting both in the U.S. and the Philippines,” Marcelino said.
Before <strong>Max</strong> Marcelino was semi-retired, receiving a Navy pension and social security. He spent much <strong>of</strong> his time
babysitting his grandchildren. He decided to do <strong>Max</strong> part-time, but before long that wasn’t enough.
18

RECOGNITION-OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
“The more I read about <strong>Max</strong> International and its products, the more I was convinced <strong>Max</strong> was real,” Marcelino said.
“I decided to do this business full-time. I felt like I needed to help more people—especially my family, friends, and
relatives—and I couldn’t do enough <strong>of</strong> that only working part time.”
One <strong>of</strong> the keys to his success, he feels, is taking initiative and being self-motivated. In addition to spending time every
day phoning contacts and introducing them to max.com, Marcelino also spends time browsing the website to educate
himself on the company. He always listens to conference calls and attends training and opportunity meetings without any
prompting from his upline.
“I think every <strong>Max</strong> Associate will succeed in this business if they will only align with their team, ask questions, and seek
assistance from our <strong>Max</strong> family,” Marcelino said.
If you treat <strong>Max</strong> like a business, results will follow
For James and Regina Abbey, <strong>of</strong> Conway, Arkansas, network marketing has fit right
into their lifestyle. They have worked full-time in the industry for the last five-and-a-half
years. Before that James was a police <strong>of</strong>ficer and Regina still works part-time as a nurse
at a children’s hospital. They are very active in their church and community—in addition to
family responsibilities—which involves home schooling their children. The flexibility network
marketing allows is a real advantage.
They were introduced to <strong>Max</strong> through their good friends Dale and Robyn Peake. Making the
move to <strong>Max</strong> was a fairly straightforward decision after they took the time to look into it.
They could see that it was a company with a solid foundation moving in the right direction.
“We saw tremendous products backed by scientific research, impressive corporate leadership and a fair, balanced, and
unique compensation plan that would help us reach our goals,” James said.
James and Regina feel the tools at <strong>Max</strong> are some <strong>of</strong> the best they have seen in the industry and allow them to focus
on building the business rather than creating their own tools, as they have <strong>of</strong>ten done in the past. James and Regina
encourage fellow Associates to stay focused and persistent and follow the action plan because it works.
“I <strong>of</strong>ten say don’t treat network marketing like a game you pull <strong>of</strong>f the shelf and play every once in a while,” James said.
“Treat it like the real pr<strong>of</strong>essional business it is and you will get pr<strong>of</strong>essional results. We look forward to our future in <strong>Max</strong>
and can’t wait to get to the top.”
RECOGNITION-OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
Set goals and a clear plan to achieve them
Although Nimfa and Antonio Diez, <strong>of</strong> the Philippines, had no experience
in network marketing before <strong>Max</strong>, Antonio’s background in national sales and
marketing came in handy.
“As a marketing man for more than 20 years I knew how to convince people that
<strong>Max</strong> was a company worth a serious look,” Antonio said.
For several months after being recruited by their good friend Romero Lestojas, <strong>Max</strong> wasn’t really a priority for the Diezs,
and it took a while for them to catch the vision. Reading Dr. Keller’s book about glutathione was a turning point. Antonio
was inspired by what Dr. Keller had to say about this powerful antioxidant and he started taking <strong>Max</strong>GXL in October. This
led to him gaining a vision for the company he formerly lacked. Things turned around, and the Diezs advanced to Bronze
within a month <strong>of</strong> that time.
An effective strategy for Antonio and Nimfa has been building a foundation to their business by recruiting friends and
family first before venturing into less familiar territory. They look for people with leadership skills who can give long-term
stability to their team. Once the team is in place, providing dedicated downline support is essential.
Antonio feels that by setting goals and creating a clear plan to achieve them—and letting your passion show through as
you do so—an Associate can go far in this company. Speaking <strong>of</strong> goals, Antonio and Nimfa are determined to qualify for
the 1st Annual Diamond/Leadership Celebration in Maui. They are excited about their future with <strong>Max</strong> and look forward
to meeting Associates from various parts <strong>of</strong> the world in Maui.
Focus and positive outlook help overcome challenges
Philip and Bernalyn Leonard, from the Philippines, said that developing a business and
product in another country creates a unique set <strong>of</strong> challenges, but when you truly believe in
the company and its products—and retain a sense <strong>of</strong> enthusiasm while marketing it—you
can overcome many <strong>of</strong> the inherent difficulties. Philip said it is far too easy to find excuses,
but when you focus on building the business you will have success.
Philip and Bernalyn have a business in the Philippines that involves sending adult students
to the U.K. to study and work. It struck them soon after joining <strong>Max</strong> that the two businesses
were perfectly suited. They meet about 2,500 adult students—many <strong>of</strong> whom are nurses—every month through their
network <strong>of</strong> 13 <strong>of</strong>fices.
20

RECOGNITION-OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
“Who better to discuss <strong>Max</strong> products with than someone already aware <strong>of</strong> their potential value?” Philip said.
The Leonards talk to each <strong>of</strong> the students they are introducing to the company not only about the products, which are
powerful in and <strong>of</strong> themselves, but about the business potential, and how they are fortunate to have an opportunity to join
the company while <strong>Max</strong> is still in its early stages. Between the two jobs they keep very busy. By working together they
have been very successful and have found ways to effectively manage their time, which is an ongoing process.
“If people ask me if it is easy I have to say building a new business is never easy, but the benefits make it worthwhile as
long as you never give up,” Philip said.
<strong>Max</strong>GXL makes <strong>Max</strong> irresistible
Carlos Remulla, from the Philippines, considers himself a business-minded person, but has never
liked network marketing and, before <strong>Max</strong>, had no intention <strong>of</strong> getting involved in the industry. The
difference maker for both Carlos and his wife Ligaya was <strong>Max</strong>GXL. They felt such a difference on the
product that they couldn’t help but share it with friends and family. The Remullas have a lot <strong>of</strong> friends
and contacts through their church, and other groups, and talking to them about their experience with
<strong>Max</strong>GXL has just been natural.
Carlos said his approach is simply telling friends he has a product they will thank him for telling them
about. He leaves a sample with them and if they have good results on the product he signs them up in the company.
Because so many <strong>of</strong> his prospects have had positive results, this has been an effective approach.
Carlos and Ligaya were able to attend Elevate 2009. They were already sold on the product but convention was a turning
point for them in terms <strong>of</strong> reinforcing their belief in <strong>Max</strong> International as a company. They were both really impressed with
the speakers and were inspired to focus even more on building their <strong>Max</strong> business. They could see it was a company with
a future and wanted to be a part <strong>of</strong> it.
<strong>Max</strong> the obvious choice for a seasoned marketer
Mark Davis, <strong>of</strong> Atlanta, Georgia, has the rare distinction <strong>of</strong> finding <strong>Max</strong>—not the other way around.
He said he was introduced to network marketing in 1994 when he was going to college. It allowed him
to make a extra few hundred dollars a month. During that time he joined a company he would stay with
for more than ten years.
In the summer <strong>of</strong> 2008 he had become passive in the industry, simply consuming the products from
21

RECOGNITION-OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
different companies, but not working very hard at building any particular one. One day, he decided to get serious and find
a company he could believe in and feel passionate about. He made a list <strong>of</strong> about 20 companies to take a serious look at.
Over several months he attended many conventions and other events <strong>of</strong> various companies. He was immediately
impressed when he attended a <strong>Max</strong> showcase in Orlando. <strong>Max</strong> became the obvious choice and he joined in July 2009.
He feels the science behind the products, combined with the results people are having, result in the products selling
themselves. But he only tries to recruit the right people.
“I always give prospects permission to say no,” Mark said. “I know that may sound strange to some people but I want to
build a large business with people who see the vision and make a commitment. People who are pressured to join rarely
stay in the business.”
<strong>Max</strong> International congratulates the October-November
TOP PREFERRED CUSTOMER RECRUITERS
Will Farrell, Rhonda Bertelson, Chris Dunn and Cynthia Denkin were Top Recruiters once again this month. They
were all featured in recent issues <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong>Today. Keep up the great work!
<strong>Max</strong> is the whole package
Dyan and Anthony Scudieri, <strong>of</strong> Plano, Texas, work <strong>Max</strong> on top <strong>of</strong> their day
jobs. Dyan is a nurse and Anthony an engineer. This has worked to their advantage
as they have built their careers. Anthony said that both <strong>of</strong> their careers create
opportunities to share <strong>Max</strong> and its products.
“My wife’s pr<strong>of</strong>ession allows her to interface with many patients that trust her advice
and she has a unique opportunity to help a lot <strong>of</strong> her patients with <strong>Max</strong> products,”
Anthony said. “I have to interface with many clients and other engineers, and am
able to share this great business opportunity and health products with my peers.”
For Dyan, building her <strong>Max</strong> business is a natural extension <strong>of</strong> her job, which, <strong>of</strong> course, lends itself to health-related
products. Anthony uses the technical aspect <strong>of</strong> his job to his advantage and “sells” the technology behind the products
as well as the business opportunity.
The Scudieris have worked in the industry before with a couple different companies, but the first time (15 years ago) they ended
up just using the products and didn’t focus much on building the business. More recently, they worked with a company with
a management team that, while sincere, lacked experience and the company was short lived. They signed up with <strong>Max</strong> last
August and feel <strong>Max</strong> has the whole package—a skilled, experienced management team, and unique and powerful products.
“<strong>Max</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> our best decisions in our 23 years <strong>of</strong> marriage,” Anthony said.
Finding health care alternatives
Dr. Wesley Delport, <strong>of</strong> Springfield, Missouri, is a naturopathic doctor who has been involved with
network marketing on some level over the past 20 years. When his wife became sick in 1982, Dr.
Wesley started to actively find alternatives. He found traditional medicine to be less than effective
in helping her condition and wanted to stay open to other alternatives. With changes in lifestyle and
diet, and finding ways to naturally improve her immune system, Alice experienced a turnaround in her
health. Dr. Delport said that adding <strong>Max</strong> products to her daily regimen provided extra protection and
peace <strong>of</strong> mind.
Dr. Delport feels that the fact <strong>Max</strong> has exclusive marketing rights to unique products—that are backed by solid science
and can be verified at a cellular level—makes it easier for <strong>Max</strong> Associates to succeed. He feels he can promote the
products with conviction knowing they are the best out there, and not a copycat product that claims to do the same thing
as the product it is copying, but without the same results.
Dr. Delport feels <strong>Max</strong> has excellent sales tool options and the most generous compensation plan in the industry. <strong>Max</strong> also
has an impressive team <strong>of</strong> health care pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, he feels. He especially likes Dr. Daria Davidson’s weekly conference
calls. Dr. Delport said she is very knowledgeable about the products and a gifted communicator. Though he feels
promoting the business side <strong>of</strong> <strong>Max</strong> poses challenges to healthcare practitioners, he likes that <strong>Max</strong> products potentially
not only help people physically but financially.
“My approach to building the business is to consistently share the benefits <strong>of</strong> the products and generate Preferred Customers,”
Dr. Delport said. “I am confident that new Associates and business builders will continue to be revealed in the process.”
Learning to dream again
Kelly and Stephen Hardy, <strong>of</strong> Frisco, Texas, have never done network marketing
before but they were very open to change when they were approached by Jeanne
Jelsomeno in September.
“I truly was at a place where I needed to find something that was going to allow me
to stay at home with our two young kids,” Kelly said. “I craved that.”
Kelly loves that <strong>Max</strong> allows her to bless the lives <strong>of</strong> people in so many ways—
strengthen relationships, enjoy a better quality <strong>of</strong> life, and regain the ability to dream
in a world where many people have forgotten how.
“<strong>Max</strong> has brought back those dreams for my husband and me,” Kelly said. “We feel very blessed that Jeanne thought
enough <strong>of</strong> us to give us that opportunity again.”
Kelly dove right in and started building the business at full speed. She said that the great thing about <strong>Max</strong> is you have
all the tools and team support you need. The Hardys’ sponsors have taken them under their wing and Kelly and Stephen
want to do the same for the people they recruit. Kelly works for a physician full-time. This opens opportunities to discuss
the product and company with other in the health care pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Stephen is a teacher and a coach.
“A wonderful thing about <strong>Max</strong> is you don’t have to have a unique talent to be successful,” Kelly said. “You just have to
have the desire to bless peoples’ lives. Anybody can be successful. You just need vision and motive.”
RECOGNITION-OCTOBER
Partnering with the best
Platinum Associates
Colette and Leroy Coursey, <strong>of</strong> Grove, Oklahoma, were recognized at the
recent Road to Diamond event in Park City as our fastest Platinum Associates,
having reached the rank in just seven weeks. This came after achieving
FastTrack Gold in just 18 hours, which they were also recognized for. This
is an extension <strong>of</strong> their dedication and belief both in the company and the
people they have chosen to partner with.
Leroy said that when he was first introduced to network marketing he was at
a point where he had slipped into a “settle for” mode. Following in his father’s
footsteps, he was working in construction when a relative introduced him to
network marketing. Leroy described himself as ignorance on fire in the industry. He was driven and ambitious but also
learned the hard way by making a lot <strong>of</strong> mistakes.
When he and Colette switched from their former company—which they were very devoted to for 12 years—to <strong>Max</strong>,
it was a new ballgame, marketing products. Their former business was service-based. They learned from their past
mistakes and instead <strong>of</strong> relying on a trial and error approach, as they did before, they would learn from the best.
“A product-based company was alien to us, so I looked at Alan Sickman,” Leroy said. “When I discovered how long
Alan had been with the company and how big his team was and his income, that was a big determining factor for us
to join <strong>Max</strong>. I said to my wife, ‘if he can do that he’s doing something right,’ so I just did what he did.”
Despite initial reservations about the industry Colette was very supportive <strong>of</strong> Leroy’s involvement. She loved the
passion it sparked in him, but she had no interest in doing it herself and went so far as to ask him to not contact
her family or friends. But eventually the power <strong>of</strong> the industry became evident. Colette had been very successful in
contract management and licensing for mergers, mega deals, and company acquisitions for Fortune 500 companies.
But building her six-figure income <strong>of</strong>ten involved working 85-hour weeks. Working part-time, Leroy eventually started
making a replacement income in network marketing. Colette couldn’t deny the power <strong>of</strong> that and eventually they
started working it together full-time.
“I love network marketing and the life impacting change it has,” Colette said.
RECOGNITION-OCTOBER
Making the switch to <strong>Max</strong> was a difficult decision and one they couldn’t take lightly. Colette said she was grateful for
their 12- year tenure with the other company and wouldn’t trade it for anything. They learned a lot <strong>of</strong> valuable lessons
during that time. But they knew the time was right for a change and visited a Salt Lake City fly-in eventually confirmed
that they had found the right company. Their commitment has shown through in what they have already accomplished
in their short time at <strong>Max</strong>.
Double Diamond Associates
Staying on the cutting edge <strong>of</strong> technology and education
Mike and Kaye Unclebach, <strong>of</strong> Sherman, Texas, advanced to Platinum
in August <strong>of</strong> 2008, Diamond almost a year later, and Double Diamond in
October, 2009. Mike said elevating his game required serious self reflection
and admitting there was a lot he didn’t know and still needed to learn. In
addition to the tried-and-true tools he already used regularly, he started
utilizing social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and became
more technically pr<strong>of</strong>icient.
Mike said his brother Scott is a great example <strong>of</strong> this and Mike is learning to
follow in his brother’s footsteps. Mike has said that marketing this business
is not reinventing the wheel, but is about making the best use <strong>of</strong> what
is already out there—finding the best and most efficient ways to work the system. By always staying current with
company tools, becoming skilled at Internet marketing and other technology, you will stay ahead in this business.
Passion is also key. Whether talking to someone on the street or networking through Facebook you always need to
let your passion show through.
“Even if it’s the thousandth time you’ve told your story, it may be the first time your audience has heard it, so tell it
like it’s the first time,” Mike said. “A <strong>Max</strong> leader can’t afford to have an <strong>of</strong>f day.”
Educating yourself and finding inspiration through books is so important. Mike said that reading books by Steven
29

RECOGNITION-OCTOBER
Scott and others taught him fundamentals <strong>of</strong> success and kept him on top <strong>of</strong> his game.
“You should never feel that you need to do it alone,” Mike said. “Third-party validation is an essential way to market
this business. People don’t need to be seasoned network marketers to succeed at this business.”
People from all walks <strong>of</strong> life are successful because they let tools like 3-way calls and training videos do most <strong>of</strong> the
work for them. Sharing too much information can be a turn<strong>of</strong>f and drive people away. Mike gave a lot <strong>of</strong> credit for his
success to his team, which includes many members <strong>of</strong> his family and wife, who are all a great source <strong>of</strong> inspiration
for him.
RECOGNITION-NOVEMBER
Focus on the value <strong>of</strong> your prospect
Platinum Associate
For Robert Moreno, <strong>of</strong> Menifee, California, going Platinum was very much a team
effort. The concept <strong>of</strong> taking care <strong>of</strong> each other as a team is repeated so <strong>of</strong>ten that
reading about it begins to sound like a cliché, but Robert says the experience is
anything but.
“It involved everyone stepping up to make it happen and they did just that,” Robert
said.
Building a strong team meant finding the right people who were ready to absorb the
<strong>Max</strong> message, believe in it, and make it an active part <strong>of</strong> their lives. Robert feels
that some prospects are primed to become leaders in the company, while others are
people you want to build friendships with and introduce when they are ready.
“You look for value in each person you approach and realize they are each in a different place. It’s about them, not
you,” Robert said. “First build rapport by asking a lot <strong>of</strong> questions like if they believe in keeping their options open or
if they would like to make a big impact on the lives <strong>of</strong> their friends and family. The answers are usually positive and
their answers will help you determine if it makes sense to introduce them to the company at this stage. Not everyone
is ready.”
Robert said you can’t make judgments based on how someone dresses, or how much money they have, but rather
on their general attitude toward life and their potential as individuals. As an entertainer, Robert has toured throughout
the world. He and his group try to give back wherever they go and will <strong>of</strong>ten perform at places as an act <strong>of</strong> service.
At one burn center his group performed at he was so affected by the condition <strong>of</strong> the patients—many <strong>of</strong> whom were
children—that he had to step outside occasionally to dry his eyes before continuing the performance.
Getting through it was difficult until he made it about his audience and not himself. He learned from that experience
that there is great meaning and purpose in giving people something to feel good about. He feels the same about <strong>Max</strong>.
If you are always focused on what you are giving others and helping them improve their lives then you will gravitate
toward the right people and work together to make a difference in the world.
RECOGNITION-NOVEMBER
Build on a solid foundation
Diamond Associates
Craig and Sheri Melton, <strong>of</strong> Deland, Florida, have several years’
experience in network marketing and have learned that building
a solid business in this industry takes time and dedication. They
joined <strong>Max</strong> in April <strong>of</strong> 2008 and got active in June <strong>of</strong> that year
after they flew to Salt Lake to meet the leaders.
Pin levels and FastTracking are good motivation, and help build
momentum and excitement, but establishing a strong, lasting team
usually takes time. When the Meltons went Gold in September <strong>of</strong>
2008, they had built their business solidly enough that they never
dipped below that level—in terms <strong>of</strong> business volume—until they
went Platinum a year later, and Diamond just a month after that.
A solid business base gave them stability that led to momentum.
“You don’t build a business on quicksand but on a solid foundation. We built a business—not a pin level,” Sheri said.
“The law <strong>of</strong> the harvest, sowing and reaping, will always work. The results you see two years from now, including
advancements, will directly result from your daily activities and hard work now.”
Plugging into daily activities like passing out product, CDs, and Intro Packs—and consistently following up with your
prospects—will lead to future results. Diligently working with your team to provide a system <strong>of</strong> activities that keep
team members focused on building the business is important. Some ways to accomplish this include lunch and
boardroom meetings and accountability calls.
Bringing as many team members as possible to things like fly-ins, regional events, showcases and conventions is a
very effective way to stay motivated and excited about the company and vital for learning how to build the business.
“<strong>Max</strong> is re-establishing the culture <strong>of</strong> this industry,” Sheri said. “The Associates that understand this are having great
success.”
