Utah is unexcelled as a natural<br />
winter playground! Among <strong>the</strong><br />
many areas providing open winter<br />
roads and ideal terrain for<br />
snow fun are three <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> canyons<br />
near Salt Lake City. For seven<br />
months <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year, skiers can enjoy<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir favorite recreation at<br />
Alta, located 25 miles from Salt<br />
Lake City, at an elevation <strong>of</strong> 8,750<br />
feet. The resort has 10 feet <strong>of</strong><br />
winter snow and one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> finest<br />
chair-type ski lifts in <strong>the</strong> country.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> 1939 National Ski Meet<br />
at Ecker's Hill, <strong>the</strong>se worldfamed<br />
jumpers participated: Oimoen,<br />
Olav Ulland, Alf Engen,<br />
Anderson and Tom Mobraaten.<br />
A score <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Utah communities<br />
have taken up <strong>the</strong> sport. Notable<br />
among <strong>the</strong>m are Ogden andLogan.<br />
