TREATMENT BY STAGE. XXII.
NSCLC with T3, N0 Disease (Stage IIB)
* subset of T3, N0 disease not presenting as Pancoast
tumor (initially considered stage III disease, but with #
natural history and treatment strategy than stage III N2
disease) now considered as stage IIB;
- pts with peripheral chest wall invasion → resection of
involved ribs and underlying lung (chest wall defects then
repaired with chest wall musculature or Marlex mesh and
methylmethacrylate);
- 5 - yr survival = 35 - 50% (adjuvant chemotherapy usually
recommended)
