86 Harri Harmaja considered extinct. F'. myrtillicola is not known from Finland thus far. Arup & Ekman (1994) also mentioned a few other lichens that may grow on bilberry stems and which bear some resemblance to the Fellhanera species. Of these, I observed only Dimerella pineti, which was found in three localities (Espoo, Jiirvenpiiii and Vihti). This species appears to prefer a slightly different ecological niche on the stem: it tends to occur even more basally than does F. subtilis. Together with the laurila collection cited below, these are the only observations of D. pineti on bilberry in Finland. Micarea prasina was not found on bilberry, but on spruce bark in the above mentioned Jtirvenpdii locality. Fellhanera subtilis is known from central and western Europe, and from Sweden, Norway and Denmark, according to Arup & Ekman (L994), who suggest that the species may be much more frequent than what is known at present. This seems to be true also for southern Finland at least (all the localities known thus far lie in the southern boreal zone), and a thorough search will undoubtedly unmask numerous new occurrences.
