Gandhi, Chairperson, UPA in the presence of<br />
Smt.Gursharan Kaur, wife of Hon’ble Prime Minister of<br />
India. The awards are given in the names of Jhansi Ki<br />
Rani Lakshmi Bai, Kannagi, Rani Gaidenlieu, Devi Ahilya<br />
Bai and Mata Jija Bai. The award carries a cash prize of<br />
Rs.3 lakh and a citation. The awardees are selected by the<br />
National Screening Committee on the basis of nominations<br />
received from State Governments.<br />
Food and Nutrition Board organised a Health Exhibition<br />
at Siri Fort, and an Exhibition on Nutrition from 8-10<br />
March <strong>2008</strong> on the Lawns of India Gate by the Nutrition<br />
Exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Speaker of Lok<br />
Sabha, Shri Somnath Chatterjee in the presence of Smt.<br />
Renuka Chowdhury, Hon’ble Minister of State for Women<br />
and Child Development (Independent Charge) on 8 March<br />
<strong>2008</strong>.<br />
A wall calendar on nutrition for the year <strong>2008</strong>-09 was<br />
released by the Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri<br />
Somnath Chatterjee on the occasion of International<br />
Women’s Day.<br />
A booklet on nutritious recipies for complementary<br />
feeding of infants and young children developed by the<br />
Food and Nutrition Board was also released by the<br />
Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Somnath<br />
Chatterjee.<br />
The Ananya Flag on empowerment of women was<br />
hoisted by Smt. Sonia Gandhi. The message of Mr. Ban<br />
Ki moon, UN Secretary General, was read out by the<br />
Derector, UN Information Centre and Spokesperson of<br />
UN Secretary General.<br />
The Ananya Flag<br />
The Ananya Flag signifies the hopes and dreams<br />
of Indian women. Emanating from the east, the<br />
rainbow colours signify a new rising; bursting forth<br />
in freedom and unfurling the new hopes of the<br />
Indian women. Ananya, meaning ‘the<br />
incomparable’ is the theme of the festival.<br />
On this occasion, the Ministry of Women and Child<br />
Development also distributed specially designed<br />
bangles and bands in the ‘Ananya’ colours. The<br />
new logo of the campaign by the Central Social<br />
Welfare Board was also released by Smt. Renuka<br />
Chowdhury.<br />
