prevalence of developmental disabilities in the two, five years old age group<br />
was 2.62 (95% (I 2.25-2.99).<br />
Conclusion: Adequate functional development during infancy reflects the<br />
potential of the central nervous system for normal later development: The<br />
observed 2.5 per cent prevalence of developmental delay, deviation, deformity<br />
or disability among the under-five children in one ICDS block, suggests the<br />
enormity of the problem and dealt with this problem at the national level. The<br />
State Action Plan for the Child in Kerala, a policy document of the Government<br />
of Kerala, has included a separate chapter on “Prevention of Childhood<br />
Disability”. This can be a model for those states or districts where mortality and<br />
morbidity issues have been taken care of reasonably.<br />
