The Department of Business Studies offers the Master of
Business Administration (MBA) degree, as well as the
Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS), and
the combined BA/MBA.

A D M I N I S T R A T I O N P R O G R A M
The MBA program has been designed to provide professional
preparation for men and women who wish to study
on a part-time basis. The primary goal of the MBA program
is to provide the opportunity for qualified persons to develop
the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies which
will constitute a foundation for career growth and development
in business, government or other organizations, or
continuation of higher education in business. Enrollment in
the MBA program is open to any qualified person who
meets the requirements stated in this catalog.
In the program, emphasis is placed on effective development
of effective research, articulation, ethical problemsolving,
and strategic decision-making skills. While including
required study in the key functional areas of management,
the program offers ample flexibility so that the student can
focus his/her study in a chosen area by completing one of
the optional concentrations available. Alternatively, the
student may, in consultation with the Director, design a
package of elective courses which tailors the program to
meet individual needs.
A D M I S S I O N R E Q U I R E M E N T S
The Assumption MBA Program is open to students with a
baccalaureate degree in any field of undergraduate study.
The cumulative overall grade point average should be at
least 2.75. Applications for admission are accepted on a
rolling basis and, when complete, will be evaluated by a faculty
Admissions Committee. The Committee seeks to admit
students with the potential for successful performance at
the graduate level and considers all materials submitted.
A completed application consists of:
Application Form: Complete the MBA form (in this catalog
or online at www.assumption.edu/graduate) and submit
with the $30 application fee (waived for Assumption
College matriculated students and graduates).
Transcripts: Arrange to have official transcripts submitted
for all undergraduate and relevant graduate coursework.
Official transcripts are required for any transfer course work.
Current Resume: Attach a current resume (even if you
have just graduated from college).
Personal Statement: Attach a statement of your reasons
for applying to the program that reflects your writing ability.
Recommendations: Submit three recommendations from
individuals in a position to assess your potential performance
in an MBA program. At least one, and preferably more
of these references, should be from former professors or
other academics. Only letters that are academic or professional
in nature will be considered. Recommendations must
be submitted on the forms found in this catalog or on the
Assumption Graduate School web site.
References from friends, relatives, or peers/colleagues
at work are generally not helpful to the Admissions
Committee. Multiple references from the same employer
are also discouraged.
If you are relying on work references because of the
unavailability of academic references, anyone you ask to
complete a reference should focus directly on your ability to
meet the demands of a graduate program in business, and
not merely report on your employment.
English Language Testing: Applicants whose official or
native tongue is not English must submit their TOEFL or
IELTS scores. (See www.toefl.org or www.ielts.org) See
under “International Students” for more information.
Applicants can submit materials at any time. When all
materials are received by the Graduate Office they will be
forwarded to the Department of Business Studies and
reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
NOTE:
1. GMAT scores are not required.
2. An interview is not required, however candidates
are welcome to contact the MBA Director at any
time with any questions about the program.
3. The Admissions Committee reserves the right
to request additional materials in support of the
candidate’s application.
The following items are applicable for both MBA and
CAGS program applicants:
• All documents, transcripts and other papers submitted for
admittance become the property of the College and will
not be returned.
• Courses taken by correspondence will not satisfy prerequisite
requirements. Online courses from nationally or
regionally accredited institutions will be accepted.
• A student is not officially admitted or rejected until he/she
has been notified by the Director of Graduate Enrollment,
Management, & Services. Applicants are notified of their
status in writing.
• After official notification of acceptance, application and
transcripts are kept on file for one year. If the candidate
has not matriculated by the end of a year, he/she ordinarily
reapplies and is subject to the rules and regulations that
are in effect at the time of the new application.
• Incomplete dossiers are kept on file no longer than one year.
• The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires that, prior
