10 A S S U M P T I O N G R A D U AT E S C H O O L M B A P R O G R A M O V E R V I E W The Assumption MBA program consists of eight prerequisite Foundation Courses (24 credit hours) and twelve graduate management courses (36 credit hours), completed within a seven year period. The Foundation Course requirements may be satisfied in a number of ways (see below). Up to four graduate level courses may be transferred into the program. M B A F O U N D A T I O N C O U R S E S All candidates are required to satisfy the Foundation Course requirements either by taking the courses listed below or their equivalents: MBA550 - Language of Business I Accounting (A) & Management (B) MBA551 - Language of Business II Economics (A) & Marketing (B) MBA552 - Tools of Business I Statistics (A) & Finance (B) MBA553 - Tools of Business II Quantitative Methods (A) & Simulation (B) These requirements may be satisfied on the basis of: (1) successful prior undergraduate performance (a grade of B- or better), (2) successful completion of the equivalent course at the undergraduate level as a post-graduate, (3) a satisfactory score on a CLEP or Challenge Exam (see below), or (4) successful completion of the courses (MBA550-553) in the MBA program. The MBA Director, based on recommendations of the Admissions Committee, will determine which, if any, of these Foundation Course requirements will be waived based on the candidate’s prior education. CLEP and Challenge Exams: Any student seeking waiver of a Foundation course on the basis of a CLEP or Challenge Exam must have the results of such exam reported to the MBA Director within six months after matriculation, and before enrolling in any MBA course requiring the course as a prerequisite. A Challenge Exam may be requested in any of the Foundation courses. Please contact the MBA Director for details. These exams are administered for a fee at Assumption at various times throughout the year. G E N E R A L M B A R E Q U I R E M E N T S The MBA program at Assumption consists of 12 courses (36 credit hours) of work at the graduate level (in addition to satisfying the Foundation requirements): Functional Core (5 courses) MBA600 - Business Ethics MBA601 - Human and Organizational Behavior MBA602 - Marketing Strategy Development MBA603 - Financial Strategy Development MBA604 - Operations Strategy Development MBA605 - Accounting Decisions for Managers*** *** For students with limited background in Accounting as determined by the Admissions Committee Electives (6 courses, or 5 if required to take MBA605) 6 Electives — from MBA700-999 (excluding MBA800) As an option, four of these electives may be used to satisfy the requirements for a Concentration. Integrative Experience - Capstone (1 course) MBA800 - Business Strategy R E Q U I R E M E N T S : M B A D E G R E E Course Requirements (12 courses) The Master of Business Administration Degree requires 36 graduate credits, in addition to satisfying the prerequisite Foundation requirements. Time Limit All requirements for the MBA degree must be satisfied within seven calendar years of matriculation. In unusual cases, students may submit written requests for an extension to the MBA Director, who may make recommendations to the Dean of the Graduate School. Inactive Students Students who do not enroll for four (4) consecutive semesters (including Summer), will be considered as inactive, withdrawn from the program and notified in writing. Such students may request reactivation, which may be granted or denied, based on the facts and circumstances. If granted, there may be conditions attached. If denied, the student may reapply with no guarantee of acceptance or credit for prior courses taken. Grading The grades in the MBA program are as follows: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D- and F. Except as noted below, a grade lower than B- is not acceptable for credit. Failures are not removed from the student transcript. An MBA student is allowed a maximum of two grades of C+ or C for credit, except in Foundations courses. A third C+ or lower grade is not acceptable for credit. The course must be retaken or replaced. A fourth C+ or lower grade indicates unsatisfactory progress towards the MBA degree and will result in dismissal from the program. The “I” (Incomplete) is given when a student for a reasonable cause does not complete the requirements of a course. If the Incomplete is not changed to a grade by the marking time of the following semester, the grade will be changed automatically to a Failure. In extenuating circumstances, the MBA Director may petition the Dean of the Graduate School for an extension to complete the work in the course. The “W” on a transcript signifies that the student has officially withdrawn from a course. A minimum average QPA of 3.0 in all MBA core, elective, and capstone courses is required for graduation. A minimum grade of B- is required in all prerequisite courses (MBA 550-553) for continuation in the program. All students whose QPA falls below this minimum will be subject to a progress review and possible termination of matriculated student status.
A S S U M P T I O N G R A D U AT E S C H O O L C E R T I F I C A T E O F A D V A N C E D G R A D U A T E S T U D I E S The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) is an additional program of study for those interested in continuing their professional studies in business and leadership. Candidates for the CAGS may already hold a master’s or other advanced degree and wish to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in one of our six areas of concentration Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Management, and Nonprofit Leadership — or in a specialty area tailored specifically to a student’s desires. Contact the Director of the MBA program for more details about pursuing the CAGS, including admission and application requirements, and course of study. 11
