More shops and cars. The ones under the trees are getting pro photos taken. Not sure whether there was more cars or talking….. Toss-up, maybe. PORSCHE PATTER ▪ JUNE-JULY 2009 ▪ Page 16
JUNE BOXSTER REGISTER NOTES BOB PURGASON Using that old vernacular “Spring has Sprung” seems appropriate here since June is now upon us. Warm convertible weather sure has seemed to be a long time coming for 2009, but we are in full swing now. For those of us with the Boxsters, this is “OUR” time of year, or at least for most of us. Early morning or later afternoon rides are actually very refreshing to Joanie and I, and we often see many other convertibles out doing their thing as well. Jan has indicated that if I write something about our Boxster Register, she will try to get it into this new online version of the Porsche Patter. That sounds wonderful to me. I will seize this opportunity to be in touch with those who are current members of the Boxster Register, and also try to appeal to those who are not members to join us. I hope that as I start to meet many of the Boxster owners, we will all appreciate these great cars as much as I do mine (probably more), and help me pass the word around to others about our wonderful group. In a previous issue of Porsche Patter, I mentioned the “Porsches2Oxford” event taking place over in Oxford, Ohio in late July. We are very excited to do this event in 2009. Last years’ Boxster count attending P2O was 52, so I am trying my best to see that number grow substantially this year. The P2O event chair and my friend Brice Kadel has a Speed Yellow Boxster S, so we pretty much talk the same language. He’s helping me to attract both the previous P2O Boxster attendees as well as getting as many new Boxster attendees as possible. I hope some from the Chesapeake Region will consider going this year. The Boxster models have been very well represented recently, especially in print. First, the article that appeared in the March Panorama by Leonard Turner about the introduction of the new 2009 Boxster models over in Sicily, using the former roads of the famous Targa Florio race course. I thought that was a great article (and what an experience for Dr. Turner), and his cover photo of the 2009 Boxster S for that issue was dyn-o-mite. Then, Christophorus 337 did their piece with their absolutely gorgeous photography, and finally an article entitled “How to buy a Boxster” in the April issue of Pano by one “Bob Purgason” (don’t know who he is). All of this great publicity has certainly helped to add to the popularity of our favorite model. Enough for now, I think. More reporting to come soon on my experience working as a Volunteer for the June Club Race at VIR, and attending some of the Chesapeake events. I hope to see you at some of these events, you can’t miss the Guards Red Boxster S we fondly call ”Bruno Boxster”. Joining the Boxster Register is a very easy process; anyone desiring a Register application can just contact me by email as shown below.
