JULY BOXSTER REGISTER NOTES BOB PURGASON
When this article is published on-line, we will be into the summer months of great
Boxster weather and the region membership will be enjoying many of the activities
that come with summer. Our Chesapeake Region calendar offers some of
everything - autocross, touring, tech, social, and the upcoming 40th edition of the
Chesapeake Challenge. I certainly hope all Boxster owners are joining me by putting
those tops down and getting the cars out for all the fun they can provide.
The really good news for our Boxster owners is that we will be having our own
event tied in with the Chesapeake Challenge 40 (CC40) event. When I had a recent
discussion with the Chesapeake Board about bringing a Boxster event in for
next year, the comment was “Why don’t we do it this year?” It was an easy
question to answer, “Yes let’s give it a try”. So the wheels are now in motion (no
pun intended), and I anticipate we will have terrific support from our Boxster
owner/members from the Chesapeake Region, with as many other close by regions
as we can draw from, to make this a well attended first event. Our plan is
to have a Friday “after work” gathering of Boxster owners, with a speaker TBD, a
group dinner, and some time to just kick tires and talk about our cars. On Saturday
September 26th, we’ll all join in with and enjoy the spirit, friendship (and
competition) of the CC40 headquartered around Frederick, Maryland. So please,
Boxster owners, mark Friday evening September 25th on your calendar of “mustdo”
events – with a follow up date of Saturday September 26th for the CC40.
I am personally looking forward to the Zone 2 Rumble At The Oak Tree PCA Club
Race (VIR – June 26-28), which I will be attending as a Volunteer Worker. A report
of my experiences will be in the next Boxster Register Notes. It appears at
this time that we will have one of the new “Boxster Spec Race cars” in attendance
at VIR, so that will be very exciting and interesting. That will surely be a focus of
my attention while I’m there. Hopefully I will have more information about the
new BSR class, and pictures as well, to pass along.
In late July, Joanie and I will be traveling over to Oxford, Ohio for the
“Porsches2Oxford” event as mentioned before. I certainly hope I will see some
Chesapeake members going along as well. It looks to be a very well attended
event, with some 500 Porsches expected this year (that’s a bunch). The town of
Oxford seems to be very appreciative of having all those Porsches and the Porsche
people invading their town, so look for more on this in an upcoming report.
Don’t forget, when you read this in early to mid July, there is likely still time for
anyone to join in firsthand for the “P2O” experience; the date is Saturday July
25th. Let me know if anyone has any questions I can answer.
Please continue to enjoy those Boxsters at our Region events. If you haven’t
joined the Boxster Register, we’d love to have you do so. A simple email or
phone call is all I need to send you the information you need to join. No additional
fee is involved, so how could you go wrong? And, we’ll all be together on
Friday September 25th for the Boxster Bash, just before the CC40.
