PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE BY ANDREW TOTH
I
n last month's Patter, I mentioned the upcoming
40th annual Chesapeake Challenge. This is
the longest running multi-event weekend in
PCA. Historically, Challenge was a multi-day
event, beginning on Friday night, and ending Sunday
afternoon. With the increasing demands on members'
schedules, and at the recommendation of co-chairs
Ellen Beck and Bob Gutjahr, the board voted to
switch to a one-day format for last year's event. The result was an outstanding
success.
I'm happy to tell you that Ellen and Bob are hard at work again this year,
and the result will surely be a memorable social event. This year's Challenge,
scheduled for Saturday, September 26, will be held in Frederick,
MD.
The day starts with a Concours d'Elegance and Car Show against
the scenic backdrop of Everedy Square and Shab Row - downtown
Frederick’s largest cluster of specialty shops, eateries and services
housed in beautifully restored 19th Century buildings in Historic
Downtown.
If you've had enough of looking at the fine examples of Porsches owned
by our membership and sharing motoring experiences (although I find
that hard to imagine), you can always enjoy a bit of shopping.
When I heard of the idea for the location, I was reminded of last year's
Parade in Charlotte, NC. It was the first time Linda and I attended a Parade,
but certainly not the last. I was most impressed by the array of Porsches
on display downtown, and I realized that I like cars displayed on
roads more than on grass. I've always been partial to cityscapes old and
new, so I may be a bit partial, but Historic Downtown Frederick promises
to be a perfect setting. I'm really excited about this location, and I'm very
glad we can bring an experience similar to last year's Parade back home
to our region members. Even if it's a little out of the way for you, I'm sure
it will be worth the drive.
So mark your calendars for September 26, and get ready for a fun time. I
know Linda and I are.
Andrew
